neqsim-heat-exchanger-fouling-assessment

neqsim-heat-exchanger-fouling-assessment is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from equinor/neqsim-community-skills. It costs 104 tokens per session (2,827 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A heat-exchanger performance and fouling assessment. A heat exchanger transfers heat between fluids, and fouling is the buildup of deposits that reduces heat transfer; the assessment estimates performance loss and separates deposit effects from other causes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess coolers, condensers, and seawater or glycol loops. It helps estimate the effect of fouling, check whether heat-transfer area is the issue, and identify an operating limit.
Why use it?
It helps explain why a cooler or condenser no longer reaches its target temperature or capacity. It can compare operating performance with design data and support decisions about cleaning.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00104 $0.02827
Opus 5.5 $0.00042 $0.01131

Security

Grade A, and why

neqsim-heat-exchanger-fouling-assessment scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 4 executable files (examples/basic_fouling_assessment.py, src/heat_exchanger_fouling_assessment/__init__.py, src/heat_exchanger_fouling_assessment/model.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Heat Exchanger Fouling and Performance Assessment

Use this skill to answer the recurring operational question "has this exchanger degraded, by how much, and what is it costing me?". It reduces one operating snapshot to an overall coefficient, normalises that coefficient to design flow correctly, splits the shortfall into fouling and film resistance, rules out area effects before blaming the deposit, and converts the answer into the operating limit a production engineer can act on.

When to Use

  • A cooler, condenser, or cooling-medium exchanger is suspected of fouling or of limiting capacity.
  • A measured U-value must be compared against a vendor data-sheet design U at different flows.
  • A cleaning interval, or the value of cleaning at all, has to be justified.
  • A "the valve is wide open and it still will not cool" complaint needs an algebraic explanation.

Inputs

  • area: heat-transfer area in m2 (the credited area, see the maldistribution rule-out).
  • design_overall_coefficient: data-sheet overall coefficient in W/(m2 K).
  • hot_mass_flow, hot_specific_heat, hot_inlet_temperature, hot_outlet_temperature.
  • cold_mass_flow, cold_specific_heat, cold_inlet_temperature, cold_outlet_temperature.
  • design_hot_mass_flow, design_cold_mass_flow: data-sheet flows, for normalisation.
  • design_fouling_allowance: fouling resistance already credited in the design U, m2 K/W.
  • wall_resistance: wall and contact resistance in m2 K/W, default 0.
  • hot_film_coefficient, cold_film_coefficient: design films in W/(m2 K); when absent they are split out of the design U using hot_film_resistance_fraction.
  • lmtd_correction_factor: F factor for multi-pass or cross-flow, default 1.0.
  • duty_source: auto, hot, cold, or mean.
  • installed_units: number of parallel units sharing the area, for the maldistribution scan.

Outputs

  • duty_kw, duty_hot_kw, duty_cold_kw, duty_imbalance_fraction, duty_source.
  • lmtd_k, lmtd_reliable, effectiveness, ntu, capacity_ratio.
  • u_measured_w_m2k and u_measured_basis (lmtd or effectiveness-ntu).
  • u_normalised_to_design_flow_w_m2k and u_naive_one_sided_w_m2k, with naive_optimism_percentage_points.
  • performance_ratio: normalised U as a fraction of design U.
  • fouling_resistance_m2k_w, design_fouling_allowance_m2k_w, excess_fouling_resistance_m2k_w.
  • condition: clean, within-allowance, fouled, or heavily-fouled.
  • maldistribution_scan: apparent U crediting N, N-1, N-2 ... units.
  • warnings, assumptions.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
