neqsim-reservoir-3d-visualisation

neqsim-reservoir-3d-visualisation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from equinor/neqsim-community-skills. It costs 117 tokens per session (3,925 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A 3D renderer for reservoir simulation results stored in Eclipse-format files. It shows the grid, rock and fluid properties, changing simulation values, and wells in a picture.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create figures for reservoir reports and decision reviews, support claims about sweep or bypassed oil, and inspect generated property fields. It is for visual evidence, not for measuring values.
Why use it?
It helps verify that a visual report reflects the simulator's actual output rather than an intended or separately rebuilt model. It makes layering, well placement, flow patterns, and selected regions easier to inspect.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00117 $0.03925
Opus 5.5 $0.00047 $0.01570
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00785
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00392

Security

Grade A, and why

neqsim-reservoir-3d-visualisation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Reservoir 3D Visualisation

A reservoir figure is evidence, not decoration. A sweep claim, a bypassed-oil claim, or a "the property field looks reasonable" claim is far easier to check in a picture than in a table — and far easier to get silently wrong.

This skill renders a simulation grid from the simulator's own output files, so the picture shows what the simulator actually used rather than what the build script intended.

When to Use

  • An OPM Flow or Eclipse run needs a 3D figure for a report or decision gate.
  • A sweep, channelling or bypassed-oil statement needs visual support.
  • A generated property field must be inspected before it is trusted.
  • A model's layering, well placement or grid extent must be shown to a reviewer.

Do not use it to measure anything. Read numbers from the summary vectors; use the picture to show where they came from.

Inputs

Group Fields
Geometry CASE.EGRID (cell-corner geometry, valid for box or corner-point grids)
Static properties CASE.INIT (e.g. PERMX, PORO, SATNUM)
Dynamic properties CASE.UNRST (e.g. SWAT, PRESSURE, SGAS) — requires RPTRST BASIC=2 in the deck
Wells Well trajectories/completions from the grid or a separate well-track source
Presentation choices Vertical exaggeration factor VE, colour-map range clim, crinkle-cut plane, threshold value

All inputs are the simulator's own output files — never hand-built geometry — so the picture matches what the simulator actually solved.

Outputs

  • A full-block static-property render (extent, layering, well placement).
  • A crinkle cutaway exposing vertical heterogeneity.
  • A threshold view isolating cells above/below a dynamic-property cutoff (e.g. remaining oil).
  • An optional exploded-layer view.
  • Each figure's caption states the vertical-exaggeration factor and the clim range used, per neqsim-professional-reporting conventions.

Engineering Method

  1. Read cell-corner geometry from the EGRID (never rebuild from DXV/DYV/DZV) and permute Eclipse corner ordering to VTK hexahedron ordering.
  2. Negate depth to elevation and apply the stated vertical exaggeration.
  3. Re-centre the mesh on the origin before framing the camera.
  4. Attach static (INIT) and dynamic (UNRST, last report step) property arrays as cell data.
  5. Render the full block, a crinkle cutaway, and a threshold view, each with an explicit clim.
  6. Interpret only location claims from the figure (sweep, channelling, bypassed-oil shape); take magnitudes from the summary vectors.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

neqsim-reservoir-3d-visualisation is a skill published in the GitHub repository equinor/neqsim-community-skills (4 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 117 tokens to every session and 3,925 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-21.
