neqsim-reservoir-souring-correlation

neqsim-reservoir-souring-correlation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from equinor/neqsim-community-skills. It costs 98 tokens per session (1,679 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An educational model for estimating hydrogen sulfide, or H2S, formation in oil and gas wells as injected seawater mixes with formation fluids. It relates H2S to seawater fraction and checks results against a sulfate-and-mixing limit.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to calculate seawater fraction per well, fit or update a well-specific H2S relationship, warn about changing data patterns, estimate an upper bound, and screen measures such as sulfate removal or nitrate treatment.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish a fitted relationship from a physically impossible result and keeps the estimate current as new well measurements arrive.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Security

Grade A, and why

neqsim-reservoir-souring-correlation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (src/reservoir_souring/__init__.py, src/reservoir_souring/model.py, tests/test_reservoir_souring.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Reservoir Souring Correlation

Reservoir souring is biogenic H2S from sulfate-reducing microorganisms: seawater injected for pressure support brings sulfate, formation water and oil bring volatile fatty acids (VFA) as electron donors, and where the two mix at suitable temperature the sulfate is reduced to H2S. The produced H2S then rises with seawater breakthrough. This skill gives the quick, transparent tools: seawater fraction per well, a fitted correlation per well, and a physical upper bound to sanity-check it.

Combine it with neqsim-h2s-phase-partitioning, which converts the measured separator gas H2S into wellstream H2S before fitting.

When to Use

  • Per well: H2S versus seawater fraction correlation that a production model, allocation tool or optimiser can call.
  • Keeping those correlations current as new H2S measurements and water analyses come in (refit, forgetting of old data, drift warnings).
  • Judging whether a measured H2S is physically possible: sulfate balance and mixing-zone bound.
  • Screening mitigation: sulfate removal on the injected water, nitrate treatment, or a thermal cutoff in hot zones.

Inputs

  • Paired time series per well: seawater fraction f_sw (0 to 1) and H2S (wellstream mol-ppm from the partitioning skill, or gas ppmv, or produced-water mg/L; the correlation carries a units label and does not convert).
  • Tracer data for f_sw: produced-water Cl, Mg, Br (conservative) with formation and seawater end members. Do not use sulfate or barium.
  • For the bound: injected sulfate (mg/L), formation-water VFA as acetate-equivalent (mg/L), mixing-zone temperature, reaction efficiency, reservoir sink fraction, mitigation factor.

Outputs

  • seawater_fraction_from_tracer / seawater_fraction_multi_tracer (fraction plus residual that flags a non-conservative tracer).
  • Correlation: model, parameters, n, RMSE, R2, valid f_sw range, AICc, warnings, predict(f); JSON registry per well through save_registry / load_registry.
  • update_correlation(previous, ...): refit, optional exponential forgetting, warnings when the model family changes or the prediction at the latest f_sw moves more than 25 percent.
  • mixing_zone_h2s_mg_l, sulfate_balance_h2s_mg_l, rate helpers.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

neqsim-reservoir-souring-correlation is a skill published in the GitHub repository equinor/neqsim-community-skills (4 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 98 tokens to every session and 1,679 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-26.
