neqsim-lng-liquefaction

neqsim-lng-liquefaction is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from equinor/neqsim. It costs 0 tokens per session (3,155 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A NeqSim workflow for modelling natural gas liquefaction into LNG, including refrigerant-cycle calibration and plant-scale calculations. NeqSim is an engineering software library for simulating process plants.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to model SMR, DMR, C3MR, cascade, or nitrogen-expander liquefaction and estimate energy use, power, train count, storage volume, or carbon intensity.
Why use it?
It helps avoid misleading plant estimates caused by using an uncalibrated refrigerant mixture or cycle.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Good fit Use it to model SMR, DMR, C3MR, cascade, or nitrogen-expander liquefaction and estimate energy use, power, train count, storage volume, or carbon intensity.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.03155
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.01262

Security

Grade A, and why

neqsim-lng-liquefaction scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

LNG liquefaction with NeqSim

When to use this

Any task that turns a treated gas stream into LNG and needs a defensible power, specific energy, train count, storage volume or carbon intensity. Pair with neqsim-process-modeling for the upstream treatment train and neqsim-equipment-cost-estimation for the cost side.

The one thing that will bite you

A shipped mixed-refrigerant inventory is not a design. Liquefaction specific energy is a strong function of refrigerant composition and circulation ratio — those are the cycle design. A builder with a fixed default inventory will return whatever that inventory gives, which can be two to three times outside the published band for the cycle, with no warning.

Therefore: calibrating the refrigerant and passing the specific-energy benchmark is a mandatory gate, not a refinement. Never scale an uncalibrated train to plant size.

Reference bands (specific energy on the feed-to-LNG basis):

Cycle kWh/kg LNG Notes
Single mixed refrigerant (SMR) 0.19 – 0.43 Typical reference ~0.26
Dual mixed refrigerant (DMR) 0.25 – 0.35
Propane-precooled MR (C3MR) 0.27 – 0.35 Baseload workhorse
Cascade 0.30 – 0.38
Nitrogen expander 0.45 – 0.70 Small scale / FLNG, simplicity over efficiency

Source: Pereira et al., Energy Conversion and Management 272 (2022) 116364, and the open liquefaction literature. Always cite the band you validate against.

Core API

LNGProcessBuilder builder = new LNGProcessBuilder("SMR train");
builder.setFeedStream(treatedGas);
builder.setLngTemperature(-160.0);      // degC
builder.setLngPressure(1.08);           // bara

// Refrigerant is configurable — set it, do not accept the default
builder.setRefrigerantComposition(
    new String[] {"nitrogen", "methane", "ethane", "propane", "i-butane"},
    new double[] {0.08, 0.34, 0.34, 0.12, 0.12});
builder.setRefrigerantCirculationRatio(2.5); // kmol refrigerant per kmol feed
builder.setRefrigerantSuctionPressure(4.0);    // bara
builder.setRefrigerantDischargePressure(45.0); // bara
builder.setRefrigerantCoolingTemperature(30.0);// degC after the aftercooler

ProcessSystem train = builder.buildSMR();
train.run();

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

neqsim-lng-liquefaction is a skill published in the GitHub repository equinor/neqsim (156 stars, last pushed today), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 3,155 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-16.
