read_touch

read_touch is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from espressif/esp-claw. It costs 55 tokens per session (582 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool for reading smoothed values from capacitive touch sensors connected to GPIO pins, which are numbered input/output connections on a hardware board. It can read one or more touch channels.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to sample touch-capable GPIO channels, either once or repeatedly at a chosen interval. It is intended for reading sensor values, not assigning pins or changing hardware settings.
Why use it?
It provides touch readings while requiring the requested pins to be checked against the board's hardware information first. This reduces the risk of using a pin that cannot sense touch or is already needed elsewhere.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00055 $0.00582
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00291
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00116
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

read_touch scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Read Touch

Use this skill only to read smooth values from capacitive touch input channels.

Run exactly one script with lua_run_script.

Read board_hardware_info before assigning GPIOs. Verify the requested GPIOs are touch-capable for the target chip and are not occupied by unrelated board hardware.

If lua_run_script returns an error, report that error directly to the user. Do not retry with changed GPIOs unless the user explicitly asks.

Tool Call Inputs

Read one sample from several touch GPIOs:

{"path":"{CUR_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/read_touch.lua","args":{"gpios":[2,3,4],"samples":1}}

Read repeated smooth values:

{"path":"{CUR_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/read_touch.lua","args":{"gpios":[2,3,4,5],"samples":20,"interval_ms":300}}
  1. Activate board_hardware_info before operating touch hardware.
  2. Use only explicit gpios from the user or from verified board hardware information.
  3. Run {CUR_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/read_touch.lua with gpios, samples, and interval_ms.
  4. Report the returned smooth values by sample, GPIO, and touch channel.

Output Meaning

  • smooth: smoothed touch sensor data from TOUCH_CHAN_DATA_TYPE_SMOOTH.
  • gpio: input GPIO sampled by the touch driver.
  • channel: touch sensor channel mapped from the GPIO.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

read_touch is a skill published in the GitHub repository espressif/esp-claw (2,069 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 55 tokens to every session and 582 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
