agent-protocols

agent-protocols is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from fmind/dot. It costs 21 tokens per session (358 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for implementing three ways for software agents to communicate: A2A for agent-to-agent tasks, MCP for tools and context, and ACP for connecting agent clients such as editors.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build Python clients and servers, connect agents to tools, expose context, or integrate an agent with an editor.
Why use it?
These protocols serve different roles and are not interchangeable. The guidance helps verify message formats, authentication, failures, cancellation, and ownership before connecting systems.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.00358
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00143
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-protocols scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (references/mcp/templates/test_protocol.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Agent Protocols

Connect agents and tools through the protocol required by the peers. A2A exchanges agent tasks, MCP exposes tools and context, and ACP connects agent clients such as editors to agents; these protocols are not interchangeable.

Workflow

  1. Read only the needed guide: read only the A2A, MCP, or ACP guide needed below. Use mcp-setup for registering an existing MCP server in a host; registration is separate from implementing a client or server.
  2. Vet vendor skills through policy: take vendor skills only from each guide's official-skill guidance, reviewed through the vendor policy and installed project-scoped. A protocol capability named skill is not an installable Agent Skill.

Task guides

  • a2a: A2A clients, servers, Agent Cards, task lifecycle, and official guidance.
  • acp: ACP editor-agent sessions, capability negotiation, streamed updates, and permission handling.
  • mcp: MCP tool and context clients/servers, transports, schemas, and protocol tests.
Files

What ships with it

4 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

agent-protocols is a skill published in the GitHub repository fmind/dot (11 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 21 tokens to every session and 358 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-17.
