dot: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/dot-skills/SKILL.md

dot-skills is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from fmind/dot. It costs 22 tokens per session (1,044 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A maintenance guide for Dot's catalog of reusable coding-agent skills and their links. It covers adding, reviewing, renaming, removing, and validating skills for global or repository-specific use.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing skill files, contracts, routing rules, resource links, agent instructions, or installation links in the Dot repository. It points to checks for validating the catalog and its installation behavior.
Why use it?
It prevents a skill from being added without its required registration, links, resources, or tests. It also helps keep shared skills separate from procedures that belong only to one repository.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.01044
Opus 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00418
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00209
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00104

Measured 3d ago against content hash 59591f726e6b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

dot-skills scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 40 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Maintain Dot Skills

Maintain first-party skills and their chezmoi links. skillify owns authoring; its package rules define package shape, resources, and standalone portability.

Workflow

  1. Choose the owner: inspect git diff and git diff --cached, read neighboring descriptions, and apply skillify's admission rule. Reusable skills belong in skills/; repository procedures belong in .agents/skills/.
  2. Register additions: each scope (AGENTS.md plus skill names, descriptions, and paths) must stay below 5,000 estimated tokens per context budgets; mise run check:skills enforces both scopes from source. Check headroom first with dot agent context --source . --project . and reduce overhead without losing distinctive triggers when full. Each global skill needs dot_agents/skills/symlink_<name>.tmpl containing {{ .chezmoi.sourceDir }}/skills/<name>.
  3. Connect resources: use metadata.kind as the single connector, task, or collection tag. Keep a single procedure in the root; preserve substantial optional modes as guides at references/<name>.md or references/<name>/GUIDE.md, with their owned resources. Run mise run format:skills to generate parent routing indexes. Never nest SKILL.md. Update project AGENTS.md when workflow ownership changes; setup, usage, and the short task reference belong in README.md.
  4. Validate: run mise run check:skills and formatting checks for edited files. For installation changes, also target uv run --frozen --project dot pytest -q dot/tests/test_skill_install_links.py. Follow project AGENTS.md for broader qualification; prose-only changes do not require the full Python suite or build. Use git-worktree when formatters could alter unrelated work. dot agent context --check without --source also measures independently installed packages in the shared roots. Review dot agent context --source . --project . --details when descriptions or guides change; its estimates are diagnostic.
  5. Exercise changed guidance: walk a realistic request through the skill using safe commands and disposable fixtures for writes. For output changes, compare success and failure cases, exit codes, diagnostics, and completeness markers. When host integration changes, check the affected host separately; catalog checks do not prove discovery or selection.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

dot-skills is a skill published in the GitHub repository fmind/dot (12 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 22 tokens to every session and 1,044 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-10.
