db-schema-changes

db-schema-changes is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from gabrielgts/magento-boost. It costs 19 tokens per session (780 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for adding or changing Magento 2 database tables, columns, and indexes using declarative schema, which describes database changes in configuration files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when storing new data or changing database fields in a Magento 2 module, mainly by editing etc/db_schema.xml.
Why use it?
It provides the required Magento method and avoids using the older InstallSchema approach.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00019 $0.00780
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00390
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00156
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00078

Measured 5d ago against content hash 9bfa0ddfd5fb, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

db-schema-changes scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill: Database Schema Changes

When to use

When a user asks to "add a column", "create a table", "add an index", "modify a database field", or "store data for X".

Declarative schema (use this — not InstallSchema)

All DDL lives in etc/db_schema.xml. Magento computes the diff from the previous state automatically.

Add a column to an existing table

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<schema xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
        xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="urn:magento:framework:Setup/Declaration/Schema/etc/schema.xsd">
    <table name="catalog_product_entity" resource="default" engine="innodb">
        <column xsi:type="varchar" name="custom_field" nullable="true" length="255"
                comment="Custom field added by {Vendor}_{Module}"/>
    </table>
</schema>

Create a new table

<table name="{vendor}_{module}_{entity}" resource="default" engine="innodb"
       comment="{Entity} table for {Vendor}_{Module}">
    <column xsi:type="int" name="entity_id" padding="10" unsigned="true" nullable="false"
            identity="true" comment="Entity ID"/>
    <column xsi:type="int" name="store_id" padding="5" unsigned="true" nullable="false"
            comment="Store ID"/>
    <column xsi:type="varchar" name="value" nullable="true" length="255" comment="Value"/>
    <column xsi:type="timestamp" name="created_at" on_update="false" nullable="false"
            default="CURRENT_TIMESTAMP" comment="Created At"/>
    <constraint xsi:type="primary" referenceId="PRIMARY">
        <column name="entity_id"/>
    </constraint>
    <index referenceId="{VENDOR}_{MODULE}_{ENTITY}_STORE_ID" indexType="btree">
        <column name="store_id"/>
    </index>
</table>

Whitelist generation (required before production deploy)

After editing db_schema.xml, regenerate the whitelist so Magento tracks which columns your module owns:

bin/magento setup:db-declaration:generate-whitelist --module-name={Vendor}_{Module}

This updates etc/db_schema_whitelist.json. Commit both files together.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
