Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5 | $0.00038 | $0.00838 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00019 | $0.00419 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00008 | $0.00168 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00004 | $0.00084 |
Grade A, and why
use-nous-research-services scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 75 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Use Nous Research Services
Identify the Nous product before changing authentication or routing.
Product Map
| Product | Job |
|---|---|
| Nous Portal | OAuth-authenticated subscription and inference provider for Hermes and Nous services |
| Nous Tool Gateway | Per-tool hosted backends selected inside Hermes |
| Nous Chat | Web chat using the Portal account and model catalog |
| Subscription proxy | Local OpenAI-compatible proxy that lets other apps use Hermes-managed subscription credentials |
| Hermes Cloud | Portal-hosted Hermes deployment surface; inspect the live Portal and current official docs before claiming plans, regions, sizes, persistence, or lifecycle behavior |
Do not call the messaging gateway or TUI gateway “Nous Gateway.”
Configure Portal Deliberately
- For a fresh Hermes setup, use
hermes setup --portalwhen the user wants both Portal inference and the managed tool onboarding path. - Current official onboarding describes one Portal OAuth for a 300+ model catalog plus the four standard Tool Gateway routes: web search, image generation, text-to-speech, and browser automation. Treat exact counts and entitlements as live claims and re-check them before quoting.
- For an existing install, use
hermes modelto add Nous without erasing other providers. - Use
/modelonly to switch among already configured choices inside a session. - Use
hermes portal infoandhermes portal toolsto inspect auth and routing. - Treat the refresh token in the Hermes auth store as a secret.
- Keep Portal inference selection separate from per-tool Tool Gateway selection.
Configure Tool Gateway Per Tool
Use hermes tools to choose Nous-hosted backends individually. A user may mix Nous-hosted web or image tools with their own browser, TTS, or other provider. Verify the active route instead of inferring it from Portal login alone.
Current documented categories include web search/extract, image generation, text-to-speech, and cloud browser automation. An optional cloud terminal sandbox is a separate entitlement, not one of the four standard onboarding routes. Availability, free pools, add-ons, partners, models, and pricing can change; read the live Portal or official docs for current entitlement claims.
What ships with it
2 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

use-nous-research-services is a skill published in the GitHub repository gaelic-ghost/socket (7 stars, last pushed 9d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 838 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.

Use when a product idea is still vague and needs to become a clear definition of what to build — "let's craft an app like X", "help me define what I actually want", "clarify this idea before we plan it".
