lapis

lapis is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from GeneGulanesJr/LaPis. It costs 32 tokens per session (1,071 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A LaPis integration that gives coding agents persistent local memory, code lookup, and document search through a shared SQLite-backed service.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to save and retrieve memories, inspect symbols and code relationships, search documentation, and query callers, dependencies, complexity, dead code, or change history.
Why use it?
It preserves project decisions and technical context across sessions and tools without sending the memory to the cloud or requiring API keys.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.01071
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00535
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00214
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00107

Measured 9d ago against content hash bb0838b31c2f, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

lapis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

LaPis — Persistent Coding Memory

LaPis is a local coding-memory stack (SQLite at $LAPIS_HOME/.pi/memory/memory.db — or ~/.pi/memory/memory.db when LAPIS_HOME is unset; no cloud, no API keys) wired into Hermes as an MCP server named lapis. It is a persistent memory layer shared across tools (Pi, Claude Code, Hermes). Use it for code intelligence, doc navigation, and durable cross-session memory.

Tools (MCP server lapismcp_lapis_*)

Tool Purpose
mcp_lapis_memory_save Save memory: title, content, type (decision/bugfix/architecture/pattern/discovery/config/preference/learning/manual), scope (project/personal), topic_key, expires_in (e.g. 7d), force
mcp_lapis_memory_search Search memories: query, optional type/scope filters, limit
mcp_lapis_memory_get / update / delete / related Full CRUD by ID + symbol-linked recall
mcp_lapis_memory_load_context Deep-dive on everything memory knows about a topic
mcp_lapis_memory_code Code-index queries. Modes: outline, callers, callees, blast-radius, dead-code, complexity, deps, churn, hotspots, cycles, importance, coupling, extractable, hierarchy, signal-chains, layer-violations, search, index-repo, reindex-repo
mcp_lapis_memory_doc Doc-index queries. Modes: search, outline, backlinks, broken-links, glossary, tutorial-path, code-examples, orphans, coverage, stale-pages, duplicates, index-docs, reindex-docs
mcp_lapis_memory_sync_code_trust After git pull/checkout/merge/rebase: sync trust scores with changed code
mcp_lapis_index_status Check progress of an async index job

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lapis is a skill published in the GitHub repository GeneGulanesJr/LaPis (44 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 1,071 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
