pokemon-go-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/fastmcp-v3-migration/SKILL.md

fastmcp-v3-migration is a skill for Claude Code from GhostTypes/pokemon-go-mcp. It costs 109 tokens per session (2,872 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A migration guide for FastMCP servers, which are MCP servers built with the FastMCP framework, from version 2 to version 3. It identifies outdated patterns and guides the required code changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess a FastMCP project, update imports and other version-specific code, and verify the migration with tests.
Why use it?
It helps developers handle breaking changes and deprecated code when upgrading without losing existing behavior.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00109 $0.02872
Opus 5 $0.00055 $0.01436
Sonnet 5 $0.00022 $0.00574
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00287

Security

Grade A, and why

fastmcp-v3-migration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

FastMCP v3 Migration Skill

Migrate FastMCP MCP servers from v2.x to v3.0 with zero breaking changes or regressions.

Critical: User Confirmation Protocol

Use AskUserQuestionTool to confirm before any destructive or ambiguous operation:

  1. Before modifying any file, confirm the migration scope
  2. Before changing imports, confirm which v2 patterns are in use
  3. Before removing deprecated code, confirm replacement approach
  4. Before testing, confirm the test strategy
  5. After migration, confirm all features work as expected

Quick Start Migration

Most servers need only one change:

# BEFORE (v2.x)
from mcp.server.fastmcp import FastMCP

# AFTER (v3.0)
from fastmcp import FastMCP

If that's the only change needed, the migration is complete. Run tests to verify.

Migration Workflow

Phase 1: Assessment

  1. Identify FastMCP version: Check pip show fastmcp or requirements.txt
  2. Scan for breaking patterns: See Breaking Changes Reference
  3. Use AskUserQuestionTool: Confirm migration scope with user
  4. Create backup: Ensure git commit or file backup exists

Phase 2: Core Migration

Apply changes in order of priority:

  1. Update imports (required)
  2. Fix breaking changes (if any patterns detected)
  3. Update deprecated patterns (optional but recommended)
  4. Adopt new v3 features (optional enhancement)

Phase 3: Validation

  1. Run existing tests
  2. Test with FastMCP Client
  3. Verify with MCP Inspector: fastmcp dev server.py
  4. Use AskUserQuestionTool: Confirm migration success with user

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
