go-authcrunch: Skill for Codex

.codex/skills/credential-authenticators/SKILL.md

credential-authenticators is a skill for Codex from greenpau/go-authcrunch. It costs 40 tokens per session (1,205 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A guide for adding credential checks for Basic Authentication and API keys, including request-context handling and a Go SQLite API-key provider. Basic Authentication sends a username and password; an API key is a secret token used by an application.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to maintain credential-authenticator interfaces, attach them to a gatekeeper, propagate request context, and configure the SQLite API-key plugin.
Why use it?
It keeps credential methods and their caches separate, supports fresh checks when needed, and defines how hosts attach and close authenticators.

Skill for Codex

Written for Codex: agents/openai.yaml present.

This is greenpau/go-authcrunch's own configuration. It tells Codex how to work on go-authcrunch itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything go-authcrunch configures →

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is make test TEST_DIR='./plugins/credential-authenticators/sqlite/... ./pkg/authproxy ./pkg/authz/... ./pkg/requests ./pkg/user ./internal/tag'.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.01205
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00482
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00241
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00120

Security

Grade A, and why

credential-authenticators scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Credential Authenticators

pkg/authproxy.Authenticator is the legacy Basic/API-key boundary. Configure the policy's realm/method/portal bindings, attach instances with Gatekeeper.AddAuthenticators, then require HasAuthProxies() success before serving. Attachment is construction-time only; hosts drain users and close their own backend handles. No root factory or automatic plugin loader is installed.

Use ContextAuthenticator to receive the protected request context in BasicAuthContext/APIKeyAuthContext. The validator falls back to legacy methods when absent, and checks cancellation before and after either call. This cannot interrupt work inside a legacy method. Configured backend timeouts still apply.

FreshAuthenticator.RequireFreshAuthentication() is a stable lifetime capability. True bypasses credential cache reads and writes, including the validator's second payload lookup and explicit CacheUser calls. The runtime sets server-only cache flags; claims cannot enable or disable this policy. Ordinary cacheable authenticators preserve their existing behavior. Cache keys separate payload class, Basic/API-key method, source address, realm, and a SHA-256 secret digest with unambiguous field boundaries. Do not cache reusable plaintext.

Authentication portals always implement this fresh capability. A gatekeeper delegating Basic or API-key authentication to a portal must call the backend on every credential request, including after a successful request with identical credentials. Current account status, credential validity, roles and effective authentication policy remain authoritative; attached directory identities also recheck their local identity policy. Account disablement, password reset, API-key deletion or a stronger factor requirement must not reuse a previous credential result. Budget for the password verification or directory request on each call. This does not change the lifetime or caching of separately presented bearer JWTs, or opt legacy remote/third-party authenticators into fresh checks.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
