schema-audit

schema-audit is a skill for Claude Code from hamzaPixl/pixl-ai. It costs 60 tokens per session (1,384 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A review of a database's tables, relationships, indexes, naming, and migration history. A migration is a controlled change to the structure of a database, such as adding a table or column.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for auditing Prisma, SQLAlchemy, raw SQL, or SQLite schemas, including index usage, foreign keys, query risks, and pending migrations.
Why use it?
It helps uncover slow queries, missing relationships, inconsistent design, and migrations that could be unsafe to apply. The result is a prioritized report with recommended fixes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00060 $0.01384
Opus 5.5 $0.00024 $0.00554
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00277
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00138

Security

Grade A, and why

schema-audit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/audit-indexes.sh, scripts/detect-orm.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

Full database schema audit pipeline: discovery → index audit → constraint audit → naming audit → migration safety → scorecard. Outputs a prioritized report with severity ratings and fix recommendations.

Required References

Before starting, read references/backend/schema-audit-checklist.md for the complete audit checklist and scoring criteria.

Step 1: Discovery

  1. ORM detection:
    • Check for schema.prisma, prisma/schema.prisma, prisma/ directory (Prisma)
    • Check for alembic/, alembic.ini, files importing sqlalchemy (SQLAlchemy)
    • Check for *.sql migration files, migrations/ directories
    • Check for *.sqlite, *.db files (SQLite)
  2. Schema inventory:
    • List all models/tables with their fields and types
    • Map all relationships (1:1, 1:N, M:N)
    • Identify join tables and through models
  3. Migration history:
    • List all migrations in chronological order
    • Identify pending/unapplied migrations

Step 2: Index Audit

For each table:

  1. Missing indexes:
    • Foreign key columns without indexes
    • Columns used in WHERE clauses (grep for query patterns)
    • Columns used in ORDER BY
    • Composite queries needing compound indexes
  2. Redundant indexes:
    • Indexes that are prefixes of other compound indexes
    • Duplicate indexes on the same column(s)
    • Indexes on boolean columns with low cardinality
  3. Index naming:
    • Verify consistent naming convention (e.g., idx_{table}_{columns})

Step 3: Constraint Audit

  1. Missing foreign keys:
    • Fields ending in _id or Id without FK constraints
    • Relationships defined in ORM but missing at DB level
  2. Missing NOT NULL:
    • Required business fields that allow NULL
    • Enum/status fields without defaults
  3. Missing unique constraints:
    • Natural keys (email, slug, code) without unique indexes
    • Composite uniqueness (tenant_id + name) not enforced
  4. Cascade rules:
    • ON DELETE behavior for each FK (CASCADE vs SET NULL vs RESTRICT)
    • Orphan risk analysis

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

schema-audit is a skill published in the GitHub repository hamzaPixl/pixl-ai (2 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 60 tokens to every session and 1,384 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
