method-writer

method-writer is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Haohaha-11/Paper-Writing. It costs 0 tokens per session (665 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A writing guide for drafting or revising a research paper’s Method section, the part that explains how a study or algorithm works.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to define the problem and notation, explain assumptions and algorithm steps, and separate design, training, and inference details.
Why use it?
It makes the method understandable to reviewers and detailed enough for others to reproduce its important choices.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00665
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00332
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00133
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00067

Security

Grade A, and why

method-writer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Method Writer

Purpose

Draft or revise the Method section so that reviewers can understand what the method does, why it should work, and how to reproduce the key algorithmic choices.

When To Use

  • Turning an idea or implementation into a paper-ready Method section.
  • Checking whether notation, assumptions, and algorithm steps are clear.
  • Revising a rejected paper whose method was considered vague or underspecified.
  • Preparing method content for ICLR, NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ECCV, AAAI, or TMI.

Inputs

Required:

  • paper thesis and contribution map;
  • method summary;
  • problem formulation;
  • inputs, outputs, assumptions, and notation;
  • algorithm or model architecture;
  • training/inference procedure;
  • implementation constraints that affect claims.

Optional:

  • pseudocode;
  • diagrams;
  • equations;
  • ablation plan;
  • reproducibility checklist.

Procedure

  1. Define the task and notation before introducing the method.
  2. State assumptions and scope conditions explicitly.
  3. Separate problem formulation, model design, optimization/training, and inference.
  4. Explain the mechanism behind the claimed improvement.
  5. Add algorithmic details only when they affect reproducibility or claims.
  6. Cross-check method claims against planned experiments.
  7. Move purely engineering details to appendix unless they are central to the contribution.

Rubric

Dimension Strong Weak
Problem formulation Inputs, outputs, assumptions clear Method starts without task definition
Mechanism Explains why the method should work Only lists components
Reproducibility Key hyperparameters/procedure recoverable Missing training/inference details
Claim alignment Method supports contribution bullets Method includes unrelated features
Notation Minimal and consistent Overloaded or undefined symbols

Venue Adaptation

  • ICLR/NeurIPS/ICML: emphasize conceptual mechanism, assumptions, algorithmic clarity, and ablations.
  • CVPR/ECCV: connect method modules to visual evidence and architecture diagrams.
  • AAAI: keep method broadly understandable to AI reviewers outside a narrow subfield.
  • TMI: include medical-imaging preprocessing, modality assumptions, validation constraints, and clinical-scope caveats.
  • arXiv: include enough implementation detail for public reproducibility.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

method-writer is a skill published in the GitHub repository Haohaha-11/Paper-Writing (3 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 665 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
