jsonstat

jsonstat is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from idescat/mcp. It costs 75 tokens per session (999 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to reading JSON-stat 2.0 datasets, a format used by official statistics providers such as Eurostat and national statistics offices. It explains how to find a value in the format's shared data array.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to map a combination of dimensions—such as place, time, and measure—to the correct statistic in a JSON-stat response.
Why use it?
It prevents incorrect results caused by assuming categories are alphabetically ordered or by misreading the array layout.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00075 $0.00999
Opus 5 $0.00037 $0.00500
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00200
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00100

Security

Grade A, and why

jsonstat scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Reading JSON-stat datasets

JSON-stat is a JSON format for statistical data used by official statistics providers (Idescat, Eurostat, national statistical institutes). Its key feature — and the most common source of mistakes — is that all cell values live in a single flat array whose order is determined by the dataset's dimensions. Follow this guide to read values reliably.

Dataset structure

A JSON-stat dataset ("class": "dataset") has these essential properties:

  • id: ORDERED list of dimension names. This order governs all position calculations (NOT the key order of the dimension object, which is irrelevant).
  • size: number of categories per dimension, in the same order as id.
  • dimension.{name}.category.index: 0-based position of each category code within the dimension. It comes in one of two forms:
    • an object {code: position}, e.g. {"M": 0, "F": 1}, or
    • a list [code0, code1, ...] (the position is the list index). ALWAYS use this index; never assume alphabetical or label order. If category.index is absent and category.label has a single key, the dimension has one category at position 0.
  • dimension.{name}.category.label: map from category code to human-readable label.
  • value: FLAT array with all cell values in row-major order: the LAST dimension of id varies fastest and the first varies slowest.
  • status: flags special values (e.g. provisional or confidential data). It can be a string (applies to all values), an array (parallel to value) or an object keyed by value position.

Reading the value of a category combination

To read the value for a specific combination of categories (one per dimension):

  1. For each dimension, take the position p of the chosen category from category.index.
  2. Compute each dimension's stride = product of the size of ALL later dimensions (in id order); the last dimension has stride = 1.
  3. offset = sum of (p × stride) over all dimensions.
  4. The value is value[offset].

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jsonstat is a skill published in the GitHub repository idescat/mcp (0 stars, last pushed 3d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 75 tokens to every session and 999 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
