devcontainer-init

devcontainer-init is a skill for Claude Code from infraspecdev/tesseract. It costs 37 tokens per session (1,262 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A setup tool for creating a devcontainer—a reproducible development environment that runs project commands in an isolated container.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to detect a repository’s technology stack, generate the container configuration and supporting scripts, and update Shield settings.
Why use it?
It helps limit filesystem and network access while giving implementation workflows a predictable environment.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00037 $0.01262
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00505
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00252
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00126

Security

Grade B, and why

devcontainer-init scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (templates/shield-firewall.sh, test_feature_map.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Asks for rootmediumPrivilege escalation

A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

`chmod 0755 .devcontainer/postCreate.sh .devcontainer/shield-firewall.sh`.

Devcontainer Init

Scaffold a per-repo .devcontainer/ that runs /implement and other agent commands in filesystem + network egress isolation. Follows the design at docs/superpowers/specs/2026-05-18-devcontainer-implement-design.md.

When to Use

  • User runs /shield init-devcontainer.
  • User asks to "set up a devcontainer" or "isolate /implement".

When NOT to Use

  • .devcontainer/ already exists and matches what we'd produce → tell the user it's already set up.
  • User wants cloud / Codespaces / CI launchers → out of scope for v1; suggest local devcontainer first.

Step Skeleton

Step Action Mandatory
1 Detect stacks via shield/scripts/detect_stack.py Yes
2 Confirm with user (add / drop / correct) Yes
3 Compose devcontainer.json via shield/scripts/compose_devcontainer.py Yes
4 Copy templates: shield-firewall.sh, Dockerfile.tmpl, fill postCreate.sh.tmpl Yes
5 Diff against existing .devcontainer/ if present; prompt before overwrite Yes
6 Update .shield.json with devcontainer block Yes
7 Print next-step instructions (VS Code / CLI) Yes

Workflow

1. Detect

uv run python3 -c \
  "from pathlib import Path; \
   import sys; sys.path.insert(0, 'shield/scripts'); \
   from detect_stack import detect_stack; \
   print(' '.join(detect_stack(Path('.'))))"

Output is a space-separated list of stack tags (e.g., python node).

2. Confirm with user

Show the detected stacks. Ask:

Detected: python, node
  [a] proceed with these
  [b] drop one or more
  [c] add a stack not detected

3. Compose devcontainer.json

uv run python3 -c \
  "from pathlib import Path; \
   import sys, json; \
   sys.path.insert(0, 'shield/scripts'); \
   from compose_devcontainer import compose_devcontainer; \
   fm = Path('shield/skills/devcontainer/feature-map.json'); \
   cfg = compose_devcontainer(stacks=['python', 'node'], feature_map_path=fm); \
   print(json.dumps(cfg, indent=2))" > .devcontainer/devcontainer.json

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

devcontainer-init is a skill published in the GitHub repository infraspecdev/tesseract (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 37 tokens to every session and 1,262 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (asks for root). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
