kubernetes-helm-review

kubernetes-helm-review is a skill for Claude Code from infraspecdev/tesseract. It costs 29 tokens per session (767 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A review guide for Helm, a Kubernetes packaging tool that uses templates and configurable values to produce deployment files. It examines chart structure, metadata, templates, dependencies, hooks, and tests.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review Chart.yaml, values.yaml, helper templates, naming, hooks, dependencies, and chart tests.
Why use it?
It helps catch unclear defaults, unsafe or repetitive templates, broken dependencies, and packaging problems before a chart is used.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.00767
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00307
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00077

Security

Grade A, and why

kubernetes-helm-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Kubernetes Helm Review

Overview

Reviews Helm chart structure and best practices. Covers chart metadata, values defaults, template patterns, dependency management, hooks, and tests. Complements the K8s security/cost/operational skills by focusing on Helm-specific concerns like template hygiene and chart packaging.

Only triggers when Chart.yaml is detected. Does not trigger for raw K8s manifests — use the core K8s skills for those.

When to Use

  • When reviewing a Helm chart for structural best practices
  • When auditing values.yaml defaults and documentation
  • When checking template helpers and naming conventions
  • When reviewing Helm hooks, tests, and dependency management

When NOT to Use

  • For raw K8s manifest review — use core K8s skills (security-audit, cost-review, operational-review)
  • For Kustomize overlays — use kubernetes-kustomize-review
  • When no Chart.yaml is found
  • For Helm chart deployment/release issues — this is static chart review only

Workflow

  1. Detect Helm chart: Confirm Chart.yaml exists at the target path. If not found, do not proceed.
  2. Chart metadata: Review Chart.yaml for completeness, version constraints, maintainer info.
  3. Values review: Check values.yaml for sensible defaults, documentation, no hardcoded secrets.
  4. Template review: Check templates for helper usage, consistent labeling, resource naming patterns.
  5. NOTES.txt: Verify post-install instructions exist and are useful.
  6. Hooks review: Check hook annotations for proper weight ordering and cleanup policy.
  7. Tests review: Verify test templates exist (e.g., test-connection.yaml).
  8. Dependencies: Check Chart.lock committed, version ranges appropriate, subchart value passthrough.
  9. Deprecation flag: If deprecated K8s API versions are found in templates, flag them and recommend deprecation-check-and-upgrade.
  10. Produce report: Present findings with check pass/fail status.

See check-tables.md for detailed check definitions.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

kubernetes-helm-review is a skill published in the GitHub repository infraspecdev/tesseract (5 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 29 tokens to every session and 767 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
