python-repl

python-repl is a skill for Claude Code from iota-uz/repl-mcp. It costs 40 tokens per session (1,556 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for using a Python programming workspace instead of short Python commands run through Bash. It also covers batch file work, data aggregation, multi-step analysis, and coordinating several tool calls in one script.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for interactive Python analysis, grouped file operations, dependent calculations, and scripts that coordinate multiple tools.
Why use it?
It provides a consistent way to handle work that is too involved for a one-line command or depends on several connected steps.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.01556
Opus 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00622
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00311
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00156

Security

Grade A, and why

python-repl scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Python REPL MCP 3.x

Load execute_python through tool search when deferred. Use python_health to verify server version, selected Python interpreter, limits and broker configuration. For a long cell use python_start to obtain a run ID immediately, then poll or cancel. For MCP 2026-07-28, take session_id from health and pass it to execution; legacy clients can omit it. One cell runs at a time per session. python_run polls progress/result and python_cancel cancels an active run independently of Python execution.

For parallel agents or a project-specific Python environment, open a dedicated session with python_session_open(name, project, python?) and pass its session_id to execution, polling and cancellation. Different sessions have independent variables, cwd, active runs and history. Names are labels, not identifiers: retain the returned ID. Inspect the reported environment; explicit Python takes precedence, an existing project .venv is used otherwise, and projects without .venv use the reported server default. Invalid explicit/project environments fail instead of falling back.

Use python_session_inspect(session_id, include_namespace=True) after reconnecting or losing conversation context. It returns bounded names/types without custom repr. Pass expected_generation from the inspected state to execution when code depends on existing helpers. STATE_CHANGED means the code was not executed: inspect state and recreate needed helpers explicitly. Never replay code automatically after an unknown write outcome. Close only your own session with python_session_close.

Use python_execute_file(session_id, path, argv=[], mode="persistent") for a saved Python script in the selected environment. mode="fresh" executes in a separate owned worker and preserves the persistent namespace. Both modes retain output, run identity and cancellation semantics. Relative file paths resolve against the session project; source tracebacks identify the actual file.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

python-repl is a skill published in the GitHub repository iota-uz/repl-mcp (3 stars, last pushed 20d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 1,556 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
