ae-mcp

ae-mcp is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ishu86/after-effects-mcp. It costs 109 tokens per session (2,138 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An automation tool for Adobe After Effects, the application used to create motion graphics and visual effects. It can manage projects, compositions, layers, animations, effects, expressions, and text.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create compositions, edit layers, set keyframes, apply effects, write expressions, and make text animations, title cards, lower thirds, or logo reveals.
Why use it?
It removes repetitive manual work when building or changing After Effects projects. It also provides exact ways to address common animation and effect settings.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Not installable: its command points at a path on the author’s own machine, so it runs nowhere else. The line is /Users/username/path/to/file.aep.

Getting it into your agent

There is no command for this one: it runs only inside a plugin, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it. The source is linked below.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00109 $0.02138
Opus 5 $0.00055 $0.01069
Sonnet 5 $0.00022 $0.00428
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00214

Security

Grade A, and why

ae-mcp scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

After Effects MCP Skill

Overview

This skill enables automation of Adobe After Effects through MCP tools. It covers project management, composition creation, layer manipulation, animation, effects, and expressions.

Critical Property Path Formats

After Effects properties require exact naming. Common patterns:

Transform properties:

  • Position: "Position"
  • Scale: "Scale"
  • Rotation: "Rotation" or "Z Rotation"
  • Opacity: "Opacity"
  • Anchor Point: "Anchor Point"

Text properties:

  • Source Text: "Source Text"
  • For text animators: Use relative paths like "Opacity" within animator context

Shape layer properties:

  • Position within shape group: "Contents.Shape 1.Transform.Position"
  • Scale within shape group: "Contents.Shape 1.Transform.Scale"

Effect properties:

  • Effect parameter: "Effects.Gaussian Blur.Blurriness"

Value Formats by Property Type

Different properties require specific value formats:

Position: {"x": 960, "y": 540} or [960, 540] Scale: [100, 100] (percentages) Rotation: 45 (degrees) Opacity: 100 (percentage, 0-100) Color (RGB 0-1 range): {"r": 1.0, "g": 0.5, "b": 0.0} Source Text: String value

Common Workflows

1. Creating a Basic Animated Scene

1. Create project (optional name)
2. Create composition with specs (width, height, duration, frameRate)
3. Add layers (solid, shape, text, AV)
4. Set initial properties (position, scale, opacity)
5. Add keyframes at different times
6. Apply easing for smooth motion
7. Save project

2. Text Animation Pattern

1. Add text layer with content
2. Set text properties (fontSize, color, position, justification)
3. Use create_text_animator for preset animations:
   - typewriter
   - fadeInChars
   - scaleInChars
   - slideInChars
   - randomize
   - wave
4. Or manually add keyframes to text properties

3. Effect Application Pattern

1. Apply effect to layer using apply_effect
2. Modify effect properties using modify_effect_properties
3. Or use apply_effect_template for preset effects:
   - gaussianBlur, directionalBlur, glassBlur
   - curves, colorBalance, brightnessContrast, vibrance
   - glow, dropShadow, vignette
   - cinematicLook, vhsRetro, neonGlow, filmGrain
   - chromaticAberration, duotone

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
