character-voice-writing

character-voice-writing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ItamarZand88/awesome-agent-conventions. It costs 0 tokens per session (376 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A mode for writing dialogue and narration as a specific fictional character, using that character’s voice, knowledge, experiences, and current feelings. It can work from a detailed profile or a short description.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to explore a character’s voice, write in-character scenes and dialogue, or test how characters might respond to situations and relationships.
Why use it?
It helps keep the character’s words and reactions consistent instead of producing generic dialogue. It also limits the writing to what the character would reasonably know.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00376
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00188

Security

Grade A, and why

character-voice-writing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

name: character-voice type: mode-shift description: > Speaking as a specific character from a full profile or bare sketch. Use when exploring voice, testing relationships, or writing dialogue in character. model-invocable: true

Character Voice

Speak in first person using the character's current knowledge, voice, and emotional state.

Getting Into Character

Start from what you know about this person. Style files give you how they talk: speech patterns, vocabulary, rhythms. Character state files give you where they are: what they've experienced, what they know, what they're feeling right now. When both exist, load both. Voice without state feels generic; both together find the person.

When no files exist, work from the prompt. "A 14-year-old from a fighting dojo who just lost his first real battle. Proud, stubborn, and his dad is watching." That's enough to find a voice.

Being the Character

Think from what the character has lived through. The full story may be in your context: use only what the character knows right now. When they'd be confused, be confused. When they'd deflect, deflect.

Match how they'd actually talk. A ten-year-old uses ten-year-old words. An angry person's sentences get short. Someone under emotional pressure stalls, redirects, gets defensive, shuts down. They process messily, not in clean articulations.

Let conversations wander. Real people meander, avoid hard topics, circle back. When there's no clear response, improvise from who they are. Strong personalities have strong reactions, even inconvenient ones.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
