Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00133 | $0.01585 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00053 | $0.00634 |

Grade A, and why
odp-dataset-scout scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 82 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
ODP Dataset Scout
A repeatable workflow for "find me datasets for X in region Y and period Z" on the Ocean Data Platform. It combines the public STAC API (odp-stac-api) with authenticated SDK lookups (odp-data-consume) and ends in a verified, clearly-labelled inventory.
Hard rules
- Read-only. No bulk downloads, no writes, no ingest. Use server-side filters and aggregates for any data check.
- Every fact in the output is either verified (from STAC, catalog record, schema, or a server-side query) or explicitly labelled unknown / assumption.
- A dataset missing from STAC is not evidence that it's absent from ODP.
Workflow
1. Frame the request
Pin down the themes, the region (as a bbox, and a named polygon if one exists, e.g. an MPA), and the candidate period. Name each source the user expects (e.g. OBIS, ProtectedSeas, Global Fishing Watch).
2. STAC discovery (public, no auth)
STAC has no free-text search (q is silently ignored), so:
curl -s "https://api.hubocean.earth/api/stac/collections?limit=500" -o cols.json
# match titles/descriptions/keywords locally, then for each hit:
curl -s "https://api.hubocean.earth/api/stac/collections/<collection-id>/items?limit=100"
- Check the "Known Datasets" table in
odp-stac-apifirst. It may already have the IDs. - Also grep collection and item JSON for the source name (e.g.
OBIS). Derived products often mention their parent dataset ("extracted from OBIS on ODP"), which proves the parent exists even if it isn't listed. - A bbox search returns every global-extent item. Judge regional relevance from each item's own
bbox, not from the fact that it matched.
3. Catalog fallback for anything STAC doesn't list
STAC only lists public, published datasets. Public drafts and private datasets are left out (e.g. full OBIS, 0e3985de-…, is public and published but still isn't in STAC).
- With a key:
GET /api/catalog/v2/datasetsreturns every dataset the key can see, public and private (~5,000 records in one response). Matchname/descriptionlocally, as with STAC. Notevisibilityandpublish_statusfor each hit. - Without a key: try
get_dataset_meta_by_namewith the most likely exact title (exact matches only). - Otherwise ask the user to find the dataset in https://app.hubocean.earth/catalog and paste its ID (the UUID in
/catalog/dataset/<id>).
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

odp-dataset-scout is a skill published in the GitHub repository joevstaas/awesome-claude-skills (6 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 133 tokens to every session and 1,585 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-22.
