sectoral-balances

sectoral-balances is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jokull/icelandic-data. It costs 29 tokens per session (3,243 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An analysis guide for Iceland’s current account and sector balances. It explains how government, households and businesses, and the rest of the world fit together in national financial accounts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to break down current-account deficits, compare private and government balances, measure foreign assets held by pension funds, and study Iceland’s net international investment position.
Why use it?
It helps prevent misleading conclusions by keeping related surpluses, deficits, saving, investment, and foreign assets consistent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.03243
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.01622
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00649
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00324

Security

Grade A, and why

sectoral-balances scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Sectoral Balances & External Sector (Iceland)

Analytical skill for computing sectoral financial balances in the Godley/MMT accounting sense:

Private sector surplus = Government deficit + Current account surplus

…and related external-sector analysis: current account decomposition, NIIP attribution, pension-fund foreign asset holdings, who-owes-whom.

When to use

  • "Is the current account deficit driven by goods or services?"
  • "How much of Iceland's positive NIIP comes from pension funds?"
  • "Government surplus / deficit as % of GDP"
  • "Private sector saving vs investment vs external balance"
  • "Attribute Iceland's foreign asset position by holder sector"

Primary data sources

All core series are on Hagstofan's PX-Web API (https://px.hagstofa.is/pxis/api/v1/is/). Seðlabanki's SDMX (fr.sedlabanki.is) has the authoritative quarterly BoP and IIP, but the endpoint is often unreachable from outside Iceland — fall back to Hagstofan + FSR PDFs.

sectoral-balances is a skill published in the GitHub repository jokull/icelandic-data (52 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 29 tokens to every session and 3,243 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
