ust-gis

ust-gis is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from jokull/icelandic-data. It costs 27 tokens per session (222 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill for reading public geographic data from Iceland's Environment Agency through a WFS service, a standard web API for map layers. The data covers topics such as contaminated land, water, protected areas, noise, and wastewater.

In plain words
What is it for?
Listing and fetching GIS layers, including contaminated-land records with site names, locations, pollution categories, and risk classifications when available.
Why use it?
It makes the agency's spatial records available for analysis while warning that some locations or risk values may be missing and that raw map shapes contain important detail.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is uv run python scripts/ust_gis.py list.

Install

Getting it into your agent

It runs from inside its repository, so the clone comes first — what it calls does not travel with the file alone.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00027 $0.00222
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00111
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00044
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00022

Security

Grade A, and why

ust-gis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

UST GIS — Umhverfis- og orkustofnun

The agency's GeoServer is a public spatial catalogue separate from the existing air-quality API integration.

API

WFS: https://gis.ust.is/geoserver/ows

INSPIRE:mengadur_jardvegur is the contaminated-land registry, with location, site name, pollution category and risk classification where known.

Usage

uv run python scripts/ust_gis.py list
uv run python scripts/ust_gis.py fetch

Caveats

  1. This registry includes confirmed sites, suspected sites and historical burial/landfill records; it is not a count of remediated contamination.
  2. Coordinates and risk class may be null, including for otherwise valid rows.
  3. Keep raw GeoJSON: polygons carry the spatial detail that the tidy table does not preserve.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

ust-gis is a skill published in the GitHub repository jokull/icelandic-data (52 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 27 tokens to every session and 222 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
