windows-reinstall-planner

windows-reinstall-planner is a skill for Codex from jqaisystems/jqai-ai-skills. It costs 48 tokens per session (526 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A metadata-only planner for reinstalling Windows software. It inventories registered applications and uncertain shortcuts, then creates a checklist for deciding what to reinstall.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps collect software names and versions, group possible duplicates, track reinstall decisions, and verify official download links for selected applications.
Why use it?
Replacing a computer can leave unclear which programs were installed or still needed. The planner records evidence without changing software and does not treat an inventory as a backup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00048 $0.00526
Opus 5.5 $0.00019 $0.00210
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00105
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00053

Security

Grade A, and why

windows-reinstall-planner scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/build_reinstall_plan.py, scripts/collect_software.ps1), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Windows Reinstall Planner

Separate software evidence from reinstall decisions. An inventory is not a backup and does not authorize destructive maintenance.

Workflow

  1. Confirm the machine and private output location. Explain the limited collection scope before running it.

  2. Read collection and reporting boundaries.

  3. In Windows PowerShell 5.1, collect only the requested metadata:

    powershell.exe -NoProfile -File scripts/collect_software.ps1 -OutputPath inventory.json

Use a new local filename in an existing directory. No elevation is required. From PowerShell 7, invoke Windows PowerShell as shown; unavailable adapters produce a partial-coverage report.

  4. Build reports with Python 3.11 or newer:

    python scripts/build_reinstall_plan.py --input inventory.json --output-dir private-report

  5. Review groups and uncertain duplicates. Keep unknown versions blank. Do not claim registrations prove an app still runs or reveal who originally installed it.

  6. Let the user select Yes, No, Later, or Undecided in the generated CSV. Verify official publisher download links only for selected software, without downloading or installing anything.

  7. Return the report locations, evidence counts, coverage gaps, and remaining decisions.

Boundaries

The collector reads names, versions, publishers, package identifiers, and evidence types from uninstall registry entries, current-user Store packages, and Start-menu app listings. It excludes account access data, activation values, shortcut arguments, configuration contents, browser profiles, and broad drive scans.

Do not query Win32_Product, which can initiate installer repair checks. Do not install, uninstall, erase, format, restore, or export application settings. No background task or remote inventory is created.

Keep real inventories private, even when they contain no access data: software choices can identify a person or organization. Public examples must be fictional. Checklists and CSV choices are independent, not silently synchronized.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
