alibaba-storage-and-databases

alibaba-storage-and-databases is a skill for Claude Code from jsgerman-oss/blackrim-nimbus-skills. It costs 82 tokens per session (2,967 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for choosing, designing, securing, and auditing Alibaba Cloud storage and databases. It explains when to use object storage, disks, shared filesystems, relational databases, document stores, caches, and analytics services.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to select between OSS, cloud disks, NAS, RDS, PolarDB, MongoDB, Redis, and other Alibaba Cloud stores, and to plan lifecycle rules, replication, backups, sizing, security, and data egress.
Why use it?
It helps match a data store to the application's access pattern, scale, backup, failover, encryption, retention, and data-location needs. This reduces the risk of choosing an unsuitable service or leaving data protection incomplete.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00082 $0.02967
Opus 5 $0.00041 $0.01484
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00593
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00297

Security

Grade A, and why

alibaba-storage-and-databases scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Alibaba Storage and Databases

When to use

  • Choosing between relational, document, key-value, wide-column, analytics, and object storage.
  • Designing OSS lifecycle rules, cross-region replication, or bucket-level access policy.
  • Sizing an RDS or PolarDB cluster, picking a failover strategy, or enabling PITR.
  • Selecting between PolarDB and RDS for a new relational workload.
  • Hardening encryption, backups, and replication on any data store.
  • Auditing data egress, retention, and residency requirements for China-region compliance.

Decision tree

Need Service
Object storage for blobs, backups, data lake, static assets OSS
Block storage attached to an ECS instance EBS (cloud disk)
Shared POSIX filesystem across compute Apsara File Storage NAS (standard or extreme)
High-throughput parallel filesystem (HPC) Apsara File Storage CPFS
ACID relational OLTP, well-known engine RDS (MySQL / Postgres / SQL Server / MariaDB)
Cloud-native relational, fast failover, scale-out reads, up to 100 TB PolarDB (MySQL / Postgres / Oracle-compat)
Single-digit-ms document or key-value ApsaraDB for MongoDB
Sub-ms cache or pub/sub, sorted sets ApsaraDB for Redis
Wide-column, time series, full-text, hybrid Lindorm (HBase-compatible + extensions)
Petabyte MPP analytics, SQL at scale AnalyticDB for MySQL or AnalyticDB for PostgreSQL

OSS defaults

  • Storage class: Standard for hot data; Infrequent Access (IA) after 30 d; Archive after 90 d; Cold Archive after 365 d. Set lifecycle rules from day one.
  • Encryption: SSE-OSS (server-managed) minimum; SSE-KMS with a CMK for any data subject to access-audit, compliance, or residency requirements. SSE-C (customer-provided key) only when you control key material in-process.
  • Block Public Access (BPA): on at the bucket level by default. Never expose a bucket publicly to serve content — use CDN + private origin with a signed URL or RAM STS token.
  • Versioning: on for any bucket holding state, source artifacts, or backups.
  • Cross-region replication: for DR or data-residency purposes; note China ↔ International replication is not available — both buckets must be in the same account type (China or International).
  • Object Lock (WORM): on for compliance / ransomware-recovery buckets.
  • Transfer Acceleration: available for OSS uploads/downloads from external networks; billed separately.
  • Notifications: PutObject / DeleteObject events → EventBridge or MNS for downstream pipelines.
  • Access logs: enable OSS access logging to a separate log bucket; set lifecycle on the log bucket.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
