freeze-deps

freeze-deps is a skill for Claude Code from kclemoveki/agentic-skills-eda. It costs 50 tokens per session (1,205 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A tool that finds the Python packages imported by a Jupyter notebook and records the versions installed in the project. It can create a pip dependency file or prepare a Poetry command, and adds a version note to the notebook.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to prepare dependency files or install commands before sharing a notebook and to leave an inline record of the package versions used.
Why use it?
It makes the notebook's software requirements explicit, helping others recreate the same analysis instead of guessing which package versions are needed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.01205
Opus 5 $0.00025 $0.00602
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00241
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00120

Security

Grade A, and why

freeze-deps scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill: Freeze Deps

Pin the dependencies of the notebook at $ARGUMENTS so the analysis can be reproduced. Adapts to the project's package manager: emits requirements.txt for pip projects and a poetry add command for Poetry projects.

Step 1 — Detect the project's package manager

Look at the current working directory for these signals:

  • pyproject.toml exists AND contains [tool.poetry]Poetry project
  • pyproject.toml exists with [project] table (PEP 621) but no [tool.poetry]PEP 621 project (treat as pip-compatible — emit requirements.txt)
  • No pyproject.tomlpip project → emit requirements.txt

This decision drives Step 4. Capture the choice for the report.

Step 2 — Extract imports from the notebook

Run a Python one-shot via Bash that:

  1. Loads the .ipynb as JSON.
  2. Iterates over cell_type == "code" cells.
  3. Joins the source lines per cell and parses each with ast.parse (catching SyntaxError and skipping the cell with a warning — IPython magics like %load_ext are not valid Python and will fail to parse).
  4. Walks the AST collecting ast.Import and ast.ImportFrom nodes.
  5. Extracts the top-level package name for each import:
    • import sklearn.clustersklearn
    • from scipy.stats import ttest_indscipy
    • import pandas as pdpandas
  6. Filters out modules from the standard library using sys.stdlib_module_names (Python 3.10+).
  7. Maps import names to distribution names where they differ (use importlib.metadata.packages_distributions()):
    • sklearnscikit-learn
    • cv2opencv-python
    • PILPillow

Returns a sorted list of unique distribution names.

Step 3 — Resolve installed versions

For each distribution name, call importlib.metadata.version(name). If a package is imported by the notebook but not installed in the current environment, include it in the output with a clear marker:

# pandas==2.1.0
# WARNING: <pkg> imported but not installed in current environment

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

freeze-deps is a skill published in the GitHub repository kclemoveki/agentic-skills-eda (2 stars, last pushed 4mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 1,205 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
