tavily is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from KCNyu/clawock. It costs 23 tokens per session (613 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A web-search tool that uses the Tavily service to return concise results for research questions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to search the web, research a topic, find recent news, or extract information from search results.
Why use it?

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00023 $0.00613
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00307
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

tavily scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 6 executable files (lib/ledger.mjs, lib/ledger.test.mjs, scripts/extract.mjs, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

AI-optimized web search using Tavily API. Designed for AI agents - returns clean, relevant content.

node {baseDir}/scripts/search.mjs "query" --bucket research
node {baseDir}/scripts/search.mjs "query" -n 10 --bucket research
node {baseDir}/scripts/search.mjs "query" --deep --bucket research
node {baseDir}/scripts/search.mjs "query" --topic news --bucket research

Options

  • -n <count>: Number of results (default: 5, max: 20)
  • --deep: Use advanced search for deeper research (slower, more comprehensive)
  • --topic <topic>: Search topic - general (default) or news
  • --days <n>: For news topic, limit to last n days
  • --bucket <name>: Which monthly budget bucket to chargebrief / report / intraday / research / extract / default. Ad-hoc/manual research uses --bucket research. Omitting it charges the small default bucket (60/mo), which is exhausted quickly on purpose.

Extract content from URL

node {baseDir}/scripts/extract.mjs "https://example.com/article" --bucket extract

--bucket works the same as for search (charges that monthly bucket; omit → default). extract costs 1 credit per 5 URLs.

Notes:

  • Needs TAVILY_API_KEY from https://tavily.com
  • Tavily is optimized for AI - returns clean, relevant snippets
  • Use --deep for complex research questions
  • Use --topic news for current events

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

tavily is a skill published in the GitHub repository KCNyu/clawock (14 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 23 tokens to every session and 613 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
