odyssey: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/react-patterns/SKILL.md

react-patterns is a skill for Claude Code from KhourySpecialProjects/odyssey. It costs 58 tokens per session (2,144 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reference for building React and Next.js 15 web pages with the App Router, which organizes pages and server-side routes. It covers routes, layouts, server and browser components, data fetching, authentication, and error handling.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for creating routes, pages, layouts, data-fetching components, authenticated areas, and error boundaries in the Odyssey frontend.
Why use it?
It helps developers follow this project's version-specific rules and choose the right kind of component for each job.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.02144
Opus 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00858
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00429
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00214

Security

Grade A, and why

react-patterns scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

React & Next.js 15 Patterns for Odyssey

This Is Next.js 15

Odyssey uses Next.js 15 with App Router. Key differences from 14:

  • params and searchParams are Promises — always await them
  • cache and next on fetch are mutually exclusive — passing both silently breaks
  • Server Components are the default — no directive needed

Route Structure

app/
├── (general)/ Dashboard, explore, feed, admin, settings, friends
├── (droplets)/      /d/[slug] — droplet viewing
├── (playlists)/     /p/[slug] — playlist viewing
├── (creation)/      /new/ — content creation
├── (editing)/       /draft/ — draft editing
├── (groups)/        /g/[slug] — group pages
└── api/auth/[...nextauth]/  — NextAuth (only API route)

Route groups (parenthesized) share layouts without affecting URL paths.

Server vs. Client Component Decision Tree

Does this component need...
├── useState, useEffect, useRef, event handlers, Zustand?
│ └── YES → "use client" (Client Component)
├── fetchAPI() or direct data fetching?
│ └── YES → Server Component (default, no directive)
├── Browser APIs (window, document, localStorage)?
│   └── YES → "use client"
├── Only rendering props/children with Tailwind?
│   └── YES → Server Component (default)
└── Mixed? (parent fetches, child is interactive)
    └── Keep parent as Server Component, wrap child as Client Component

Component Boundaries

The #1 mistake: Making a parent component "use client" because a child needs interactivity.

// BAD — entire tree becomes client, loses SSR data fetching
"use client";
export default function DropletPage({ params }) {
  const [isOpen, setIsOpen] = useState(false);
  const droplet = useDroplet(params.slug); // now needs client-side fetch
  return <div>...</div>;
}

// GOOD — server parent, client child
export default async function DropletPage({
  params,
}: {
  params: Promise<{ slug: string }>;
}) {
  const { slug } = await params; // Next.js 15: params is a Promise
  const droplet = await getDropletBySlug(slug); // server fetch

  if (!droplet) notFound();

  return (
    <div>
      <DropletHeader droplet={droplet} />
      <InteractivePanel defaultOpen={false} /> {/* "use client" */}
    </div>
  );
}

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

react-patterns is a skill published in the GitHub repository KhourySpecialProjects/odyssey (7 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 58 tokens to every session and 2,144 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
