data-migration

data-migration is a skill for Claude Code from korchard333/claude-power-platform-community. It costs 59 tokens per session (4,239 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to moving data into or between Dataverse systems, including imports from CSV, Excel, databases, and older CRM systems.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan imports, dataflows, staging, deduplication, entity mapping, Web API bulk loads, Azure Data Factory pipelines, and migrations from on-premises Dynamics CRM.
Why use it?
It helps match the migration method to the data size and complexity while addressing transformations, duplicates, quality checks, and rollback planning.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00059 $0.04239
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.02119
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00848
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00424

Security

Grade A, and why

data-migration scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Skill: Data Migration

When to Use

Trigger when migrating data into Dataverse from external systems, legacy CRM (D365 on-prem), CSV/Excel files, or other databases. Also trigger for data quality processes, bulk operations, and migration rollback planning.

Migration Approach Decision Table

Volume Complexity Approach Tools
< 10K rows Simple (flat) Dataverse import wizard Built-in CSV/Excel import
< 100K rows Simple to moderate Dataverse dataflows Power Query Online
< 100K rows Complex (transforms) Power Automate Flow with Apply to Each
100K-1M rows Any Web API bulk (CreateMultiple/UpdateMultiple) Script (bash/PowerShell)
1M-10M rows Any Web API bulk + parallel scripts Custom script with batching
10M+ rows Any Azure Data Factory + elastic tables ADF pipelines
D365 on-prem → online CRM-specific D365 Migration Tool or Web API KingswaySoft, Scribe, ADF

Approach 1: Dataverse Import Wizard (< 10K)

Built-in CSV/Excel import in the Power Apps maker portal.

Power Apps → Tables → [table] → Import → Import data
→ Select CSV or Excel file
  → Map columns (auto-mapping + manual correction)
  → Import

Limitations

Limitation Impact
Max ~10,000 rows per import Must split larger files
No transformation logic Data must be clean before import
No lookup resolution by name Lookup columns need GUID values or manual mapping
No error rollback Failed rows are skipped, not rolled back
No scheduling Manual one-time operation

Approach 2: Dataverse Dataflows (< 100K)

Power Query Online for ETL into Dataverse.

Power Apps → Dataflows → + New dataflow
→ Source: CSV, Excel, SQL, SharePoint, OData, etc.
→ Transform: Power Query M transformations
  → Destination: Dataverse table
  → Map columns
→ Schedule refresh (or run once)

When to Use Dataflows

  • Data needs transformation (rename, type conversion, filtering)
  • Source is a supported Power Query connector
  • Need scheduled refresh (ongoing sync)
  • Volume is under ~100K rows (performance degrades above this)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

data-migration is a skill published in the GitHub repository korchard333/claude-power-platform-community (47 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 59 tokens to every session and 4,239 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
