redshift-switch-profile

redshift-switch-profile is a skill for Claude Code from kouko/redshift-comment-mcp. It costs 148 tokens per session (1,800 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill for switching between already configured Amazon Redshift connection profiles by changing which profile is active. A profile stores connection details such as the host, user, and database.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to select an existing profile, verify the connection, and change the active Redshift cluster; use setup commands when creating or editing profiles.
Why use it?
It avoids re-entering connection details when you work with multiple Redshift clusters, such as development and production.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00148 $0.01800
Opus 5 $0.00074 $0.00900
Sonnet 5 $0.00030 $0.00360
Haiku 4.5 $0.00015 $0.00180

Measured 5d ago against content hash 36911ac9e57b, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-05, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

redshift-switch-profile scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 223 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Redshift Switch Profile

Flip the active Redshift profile pointer file at ~/.config/redshift-comment-mcp/active-profile. No connection field re-entry: this skill assumes the target profile is already configured (host / user / dbname in config.toml + password in OS keychain).

For single-profile users (the majority) this skill is intentionally a no-op — see "When NOT to Use".

When to Use

  • User has 2+ configured Redshift profiles and wants to switch which one the MCP server connects to.
  • User invokes /redshift-switch-profile <name> (direct form).
  • User invokes /redshift-switch-profile (interactive — lists profiles, asks which one).
  • User says "switch to dev cluster" / "切換到 prod" / "クラスタを切替" with multiple clusters configured.

When NOT to Use

  • Only default (or only one profile total) → friendly bow-out, suggest /redshift-setup <name> to add a second cluster.
  • Zero profiles → suggest /redshift-setup to set up first cluster.
  • User wants to set up a NEW profile → use /redshift-setup.
  • User wants to change a profile's host / user / dbname → use /redshift-setup <name> (it offers existing values as defaults).
  • User wants to change ONLY a password → use set-password CLI.

Storage Model

This skill only edits the active-profile pointer file:

Pointer file state Effect on MCP server startup
Absent Server falls back to "default" (canonical single-profile state)
Present, content = <name> Server connects with <name>
Present, content = "default" Unusual; this skill normalizes by removing the file instead of writing "default"

Connection fields (host / user / dbname / password) and [profile.<name>] blocks in config.toml are never touched by this skill.

Flow

Step 1 — Locate plugin install path

PLUGIN_ROOT=$(ls -d "$HOME/.claude/plugins/cache/redshift-comment-mcp/redshift-comment-mcp"/*/ 2>/dev/null | sort -V | tail -1)
test -n "$PLUGIN_ROOT" || { echo "Plugin not installed." >&2; exit 1; }
echo "$PLUGIN_ROOT"

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

redshift-switch-profile is a skill published in the GitHub repository kouko/redshift-comment-mcp (1 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 148 tokens to every session and 1,800 once invoked, about $0.0007 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
