kx-dashboard-core

kx-dashboard-core is a skill for Claude Code from KxSystems/kx-skills. It costs 89 tokens per session (3,591 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

The shared foundation for building or editing KX Dashboards in JSON. It defines the dashboard structure, screens, widgets, data sources, ViewState values, actions, notifications, deployment, and validation checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before configuring dashboard components to create the required JSON envelope, connect data and filters, wire actions, and check the dashboard before deployment.
Why use it?
It prevents structural mismatches that can corrupt a dashboard, such as duplicate widget IDs, incorrect data-source names, or broken navigation links. Other KX component guides depend on it.

Skill establishes unauthorized persistence across sessions via cron jobs, startup scripts, or state files. Session persistence allows an attacker to maintain access beyond the current interaction.
Fix: Remove any persistence mechanisms (cron jobs, startup scripts, state files). Skills should not maintain state across sessions without explicit user consent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00089 $0.03591
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.01795
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.00718
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00359

Security

Grade A, and why

kx-dashboard-core scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (generate.js), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

KX Dashboard Core — Shared Infrastructure

Always read this skill before any component-specific skill. Every other kx-* skill depends on the definitions here.

⚠️ Agent Hazards — Read First

  1. id / hash / filename must be identical. Generate the UUID once; use it for id, hash, and {uuid}.json.
  2. ViewState names are case-sensitive and path-sensitive. Trade Filters/symtrade filters/sym. Separator is /.
  3. key drives the entire schema. Never copy a Datagrid options block under a ChartGL key or vice versa.
  4. possibleXColumns, possibleYColumns, etc. must list actual query column names.
  5. Widget IDs must be unique across the entire dashboard, not just within one screen.
  6. Update screenDetails and screens together. Mismatch corrupts navigation.
  7. Connection name must match exactly. _connection: "tradefeed" requires a file whose name is also "tradefeed".
  8. Format: "General" ignores Precision. Use "Number" or "Formatted Number" to enforce decimal places.
  9. advancedCss is a JSON string. Escape quotes and newlines.
  10. Navigation actions always fire last regardless of list order.
  11. Graph uses "Basic" (singular), not "Basics". Unique inconsistency.
  12. DataFilter kdbString must be a ViewState reference, not an empty string.

Workflow

Step 1 — Gather inputs (AskUserQuestion)

Always ask:

  • Component type (see Component Registry below)
  • Dashboard name
  • kdb+ connection name (e.g. html5evalcongroup)
  • Query string and column names returned
  • Theme: Dark or Light
  • Deploy directly to ~/.kx/dashboards/data/dashboards/?

Step 2 — Generate JSON using generate.js

node generate.js --config my.config.json [--out output.json] [--deploy]

componentType values: "chartgl" | "chart3d" | "datagrid" | "datatable" | "datafilter" | "dataform" | "breadcrumbs" | "gauge" | "button" | "radar". For other types, build the component object manually using the schema in the relevant kx-* skill.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
