installing-looker-cli

installing-looker-cli is a skill for Claude Code from looker-open-source/looker-skills. It costs 58 tokens per session (851 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An installation step for the Looker CLI, a command-line tool used to work with Looker projects. It checks whether the tool is already available and, if not, downloads the appropriate compiled release from GitHub.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before Looker authentication to check or install the CLI on macOS, Linux, WSL, or Windows.
Why use it?
It removes the manual work of checking for the CLI and choosing an installation method. It also accounts for different operating systems and the need for internet access and write permissions.

    Skill establishes unauthorized persistence across sessions via cron jobs, startup scripts, or state files. Session persistence allows an attacker to maintain access beyond the current interaction.
    Fix: Remove any persistence mechanisms (cron jobs, startup scripts, state files). Skills should not maintain state across sessions without explicit user consent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Opus 5 $0.00029 $0.00426

Security

Grade A, and why

installing-looker-cli scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Installing Looker CLI

Checks if looker-cli is already available on the system. If it is not found, downloads and installs the appropriate pre-compiled binary from the GitHub Releases page of the looker-cli repository (https://github.com/looker-open-source/looker-cli/releases).

Prerequisites

  • Active internet connection to download the binary from GitHub.
  • Privileges to write to local binary directories (e.g. /usr/local/bin or ~/.local/bin).

Instructions

1. Check for Existing Installation

Before downloading, check if the CLI is already installed and accessible:

looker-cli --help

If this command executes successfully and prints the help menu, the CLI is ready. Skip the installation steps below and proceed directly to Step 3 (Authentication).

2. Perform OS-Specific Installation

If looker-cli is not found, determine the operating system of the environment and execute the corresponding installation steps.

Option A: macOS & Linux
  1. Retrieve latest release tag: Query the GitHub API or check the releases page (https://github.com/looker-open-source/looker-cli/releases) to identify the latest version tag (e.g., v1.0.0).

  2. Download and install: Run the following sequence to download, rename, and move the binary to your local bin path:

    For macOS (arm64 Apple Silicon):

    curl -Lo looker-cli https://github.com/looker-open-source/looker-cli/releases/latest/download/looker-cli-darwin-arm64
    chmod +x looker-cli
    mkdir -p ~/.local/bin && mv looker-cli ~/.local/bin/

    For macOS (amd64 Intel):

    curl -Lo looker-cli https://github.com/looker-open-source/looker-cli/releases/latest/download/looker-cli-darwin-amd64
    chmod +x looker-cli
    mkdir -p ~/.local/bin && mv looker-cli ~/.local/bin/

    For Linux (amd64):

    curl -Lo looker-cli https://github.com/looker-open-source/looker-cli/releases/latest/download/looker-cli-linux-amd64
    chmod +x looker-cli
    mkdir -p ~/.local/bin && mv looker-cli ~/.local/bin/

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
