readme-skill

readme-skill is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from lorem-dev/skillkeeper-test-repo. It costs 18 tokens per session (249 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A test skill for checking how grouped skills are tracked when they have no version number. It uses the file's content hash to detect changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Testing skill grouping, installation records, content-based update detection, dependency discovery, and exclusion of .skid.yml from the hash.
Why use it?
It helps verify that updates are found when the file changes and cleared when it returns to its original content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00018 $0.00249
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00125
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00050
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00025

Measured 5d ago against content hash 3c5ad644da8c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

readme-skill scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

readme-skill

The smallest grouped skill: a description but deliberately no version and no license.

What this fixture covers:

  • A grouped skill with a partly-filled manifest, so the desktop Skills tree has a row with an empty version column under a group.
  • Update detection with nothing to fall back on. Because version is absent, the install manifest records no version, and staleness is decided purely by comparing the skill's content hash against the one recorded at install. Edit this file, then check the skill reports an available update - and check that editing it back clears the update, since the hash returns to its original value.
  • The second skill of the docs-writing group, which keeps the group alive for MCP group discovery even if changelog-skill is removed.

The content hash covers this file only, and .skid.yml is always excluded from it by basename - so the hash a skill records is the same before and after that file is written.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
