git-conventions

git-conventions is a skill for Claude Code from makigjuro/cloudstack-ai-plugins. It costs 42 tokens per session (516 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of Git rules for branches, commit messages, staging changes, and pull requests. Git is the version-control system used to track code changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps name branches, write short imperative commit messages, stage related changes, and open pull requests according to project conventions.
Why use it?
It prevents inconsistent history and makes branches, commits, and reviews easier for a team to understand.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00042 $0.00516
Opus 5.5 $0.00017 $0.00206
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00103
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00052

Measured 16d ago against content hash cae332a40008, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

git-conventions scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Git Conventions

If cloudstack.json sets conventions.branchFormat or conventions.commitStyle, those override the defaults below.

Branch Naming

Format: {username}/{issue-number}-{short-slug}

Examples:

  • jdoe/166-aks-cluster-services
  • asmith/247-real-time-sse-websocket

Commit Messages

Format: lowercase imperative, no period at end

{verb} {what was done}

Verbs:

  • add — new feature or file (not "added", not "adds")
  • fix — bug fix
  • update — enhancement to existing feature
  • remove — delete code or feature
  • refactor — restructure without behaviour change
  • rename — rename files, variables, or types
  • move — relocate files between directories
  • enforce — add or tighten a rule/constraint
  • address — respond to review feedback

Examples:

add user registration endpoint with validation
fix null reference in heartbeat processor
update device list to show online status badge
remove deprecated v1 API routes
refactor query handlers to use Result pattern

Rules:

  • First line under 72 characters
  • No capitalization of first word (lowercase)
  • No trailing period
  • One logical change per commit — not one giant commit per feature
  • Reference issue number in the PR, not in every commit message

Protected Branches

  • Never commit directly to main — always use feature branches
  • Never force-push to main
  • Merge via pull request only

Staging

  • Stage specific files by name, not git add -A or git add .
  • Never commit .env, appsettings.*.json with secrets, or **/bin/ / **/obj/ directories
  • Review git diff --cached before committing

PR Conventions

  • PR title: imperative mood, under 70 characters (matches the primary commit)
  • Link to GitHub issue with Closes #{number}
  • One PR per issue — don't bundle unrelated changes
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
