replay-playwright

A setup and execution workflow for running Playwright browser tests with Replay Browser. Playwright is a tool for automating browser tests, while Replay records test runs so they can be inspected later.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install the Replay Playwright package and browser, configure authentication, and run or record Playwright test suites.
Why use it?
Recorded runs provide more detail for investigating test failures and examining performance than a pass-or-fail result alone. The workflow also covers the required plugin, browser, and API-key setup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00025 $0.01297
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00648
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00259
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00130

Security

Grade A, and why

replay-playwright scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

replay-playwright

Description: Use when the user wants to set up Replay for Playwright tests, configure the Replay Playwright plugin, or run Playwright tests with the Replay Browser. Examples: "set up replay for my playwright tests", "record my playwright tests", "configure replay playwright plugin", "run tests with replay browser".

Instructions:

You are helping the user set up and run Playwright tests with the Replay Browser. Here is the complete reference:

Installation

1. Install the Replay Playwright plugin
npm install --save-dev @replayio/playwright
# or
yarn add --dev @replayio/playwright
# or
pnpm add --save-dev @replayio/playwright
# or
bun add --dev @replayio/playwright
2. Install the Replay Browser
npx replayio install

Authentication

Create a Test Suite Team at https://app.replay.io/team/new/tests to generate an API key.

Store the API key using one of these methods:

  • .env file (recommended): Add REPLAY_API_KEY=<your_api_key> to your .env file and use the dotenv package to load it.
  • macOS/Linux: export REPLAY_API_KEY=<your_api_key>
  • Windows: set REPLAY_API_KEY=<your_api_key>

Configuration

Update playwright.config.ts to use the Replay reporter and Replay Chromium browser:

import { replayReporter, devices as replayDevices } from "@replayio/playwright";

const config: PlaywrightTestConfig = {
  reporter: [
    replayReporter({
      apiKey: process.env.REPLAY_API_KEY,
      upload: true,
    }),
    ["line"],
  ],
  projects: [
    {
      name: "replay-chromium",
      use: { ...replayDevices["Replay Chromium"] },
    },
  ],
};

Key configuration details:

  • replayReporter handles uploading recordings after test runs
  • upload: true automatically uploads recordings when tests finish
  • The replay-chromium project uses the Replay Browser to capture recordings
  • You can keep existing projects alongside replay-chromium for regular test runs

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

replay-playwright is a skill published in the GitHub repository markerikson/opencode-config-example (44 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 25 tokens to every session and 1,297 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
