webhook-subscriptions

A webhook system that lets external services send events to a URL and trigger agent runs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to enable the webhook platform, create subscriptions, manage them with the agent CLI, and verify the gateway is running.
Why use it?
It connects agent work to events from services such as GitHub, GitLab, Stripe, CI/CD systems, sensors, or monitoring tools instead of requiring manual starts.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00013 $0.01680
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00840
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00336
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00168

Security

Grade A, and why

webhook-subscriptions scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Webhook Subscriptions

Create dynamic webhook subscriptions so external services (GitHub, GitLab, Stripe, CI/CD, IoT sensors, monitoring tools) can trigger the agent agent runs by POSTing events to a URL.

Setup (Required First)

The webhook platform must be enabled before subscriptions can be created. Check with:

the agent webhook list

If it says "Webhook platform is not enabled", set it up:

Option 1: Setup wizard

the agent gateway setup

Follow the prompts to enable webhooks, set the port, and set a global HMAC secret.

Option 2: Manual config

Add to ~/.mateclaw/config.yaml:

platforms:
  webhook:
    enabled: true
    extra:
      host: "0.0.0.0"
      port: 8644
      secret: "generate-a-strong-secret-here"

Option 3: Environment variables

Add to ~/.mateclaw/.env:

WEBHOOK_ENABLED=true
WEBHOOK_PORT=8644
WEBHOOK_SECRET=generate-a-strong-secret-here

After configuration, start (or restart) the gateway:

the agent gateway run
# Or if using systemd:
systemctl --user restart the agent-gateway

Verify it's running:

curl http://localhost:8644/health

Commands

All management is via the the agent webhook CLI command:

Create a subscription

the agent webhook subscribe <name> \
--prompt "Prompt template with {payload.fields}" \
  --events "event1,event2" \
  --description "What this does" \
  --skills "skill1,skill2" \
  --deliver telegram \
  --deliver-chat-id "12345" \
  --secret "optional-custom-secret"

Returns the webhook URL and HMAC secret. The user configures their service to POST to that URL.

List subscriptions

the agent webhook list

Remove a subscription

the agent webhook remove <name>

Test a subscription

the agent webhook test <name>
the agent webhook test <name> --payload '{"key": "value"}'

Prompt Templates

Prompts support {dot.notation} for accessing nested payload fields:

  • {issue.title} — GitHub issue title
  • {pull_request.user.login} — PR author
  • {data.object.amount} — Stripe payment amount
  • {sensor.temperature} — IoT sensor reading

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

webhook-subscriptions is a skill published in the GitHub repository mateaix/mateclaw (1,061 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 13 tokens to every session and 1,680 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
