stopslop

stopslop is a skill for Claude Code from mgiovani/cc-arsenal. It costs 56 tokens per session (470 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A checker for finding text that appears to be generic or machine-produced, commonly called AI slop. It runs its rules on selected files and reports the findings.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to check paths, staged files, changed files, or files changed since a Git reference, review the JSON report, and fix selected findings.
Why use it?
It gives you a repeatable way to review this kind of writing instead of relying only on personal judgement. You can choose what to fix and then check the changed files again.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00056 $0.00470
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00188
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00094
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00047

Security

Grade A, and why

stopslop scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

stopslop

Run the linter with every rule on, summarize from its JSON, and optionally turn the findings into a page the user marks up.

Checklist

Copy this list and tick each step. A gate means stop and report if it fails.

  • 1. Install or verify the binary. Gate: no stopslop and no cargo means print the install line and stop. See references/install.md.
  • 2. Pick the scope: paths, --staged, --changed, or --since <ref>. See references/cli.md, and references/config-file.md for a repo stopslop.toml.
  • 3. Run the full report and save the JSON. Gate: exit 2 means show stderr and stop. See references/full-report.md.
  • 4. Summarize by tier, rule and file from the JSON. See references/full-report.md, and references/rules.md for rule groups.
  • 5. Offer to render the findings (opt-in). See references/render-and-fix.md.
  • 6. After the user marks the page, fix only the items marked fix, then re-run stopslop on the touched files. See references/render-and-fix.md, and references/suppressions.md for accepted findings.

Rules

  • Quote counts only from the JSON the run printed. Never estimate a number.
  • Take rule names and codes only from stopslop --list-rules. Never invent one.
  • Exit 0 under default settings does not mean clean: Tier B findings do not fail by default. The full report uses --fail-on-tier C.
  • Never edit a file the user did not mark fix.
Files

What ships with it

9 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
