assertion-map

assertion-map is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from microsoft/cat-agent-skills. It costs 161 tokens per session (1,767 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A review tool that links each claim in a deliverable to supporting evidence and reports whether the support is sufficient. It treats factual, numerical, predictive, opinion, and recommendation claims differently.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for checking claims, tracing statements to source material, and passing unsupported findings to a later review gate.
Why use it?
It helps find claims that lack evidence or have only limited support before the deliverable is approved.

About the project

microsoft/cat-agent-skills is a static website that catalogs reusable instruction sets and related packages for AI agents. People use it to search, filter, rate, and download skills for Cowork, Copilot Studio, and Scout, along with Copilot plugins and Scout automations. The catalogue entries are the skills, instructions, plugins, and settings displayed by the site.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00161 $0.01767
Opus 5.5 $0.00064 $0.00707
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00353
Haiku 4.5 $0.00016 $0.00177

Security

Grade A, and why

assertion-map scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/assertion_map.py, scripts/assertion_rules.py, scripts/steering_guard.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Assertion Map (Analyze)

Purpose

Determine evidence support for each located assertion. Assertion classes matter: factual, quantified, forward-looking/opinion and recommendation claims have different evidence requirements.

When to use

After deliverable-ingest and criteria-retrieve, before gate-check; also for direct questions about unsupported claims or evidence traceability.

Inputs

review-input.json under contract ps.deliverable-review-quality-gate.v1, including explicit criteria.criteria_sections, assertions[] and evidence_set[].

Steps

  1. Run python scripts/assertion_map.py --input review-input.json --out assertion-mapped.json --generated-at <ISO timestamp>.
  2. If the engine exits non-zero, stop and report the input error; never hand-compute support.
  3. Quote support_status, support_score, linked evidence IDs, best evidence ID, rationale and citations verbatim. Citations include every linked evidence item, not just the best evidence item.
  4. Pass unsupported and limited assertion findings to gate-check.

Output

assertion-mapped.json with assertion_mappings[], evidence-support findings, escalations and provenance.

Output format

Markdown table: assertion_id, class, location, evidence_ids, best_evidence_id, support_status, support_score, criteria_section and citation. Add the engine error only if it failed.

| assertion_id | class | location | evidence_ids | best_evidence_id | support_status | support_score | criteria_section | citation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Example

python scripts/assertion_map.py --input review-input.json --out assertion-mapped.json --generated-at 2026-10-01T00:00:00Z

Grounding requirements

Ground every statement in a cited source: every support verdict, score and escalation comes from the engine, and every explanation cites the linked evidence ID and criteria section; never invent evidence, scores or rationales. Best evidence is selected for relevance to the assertion class before confidence, so scope documents do not outrank the actual support sample. Quantified claims require traceable analytical evidence; stakeholder verbal support is insufficient. No linked evidence means unsupported, never supported.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
