knowledge-source-router

knowledge-source-router is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from microsoft/cat-agent-skills. It costs 79 tokens per session (1,206 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A routing guide that chooses the appropriate regional knowledge source for a question. Regional sources matter because policies, benefits, prices, support hours, and availability can differ by location.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before searching a region-dependent knowledge base, passing the selected source or sources into the search request.
Why use it?
It helps prevent answers based on information from the wrong country or region.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00079 $0.01206
Opus 5 $0.00039 $0.00603
Sonnet 5 $0.00016 $0.00241
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00121

Security

Grade A, and why

knowledge-source-router scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Knowledge Source Router

Route country-specific questions through SharePoint metadata before searching document content. A country identifies which documents apply; it is not a keyword to search for inside those documents.

Follow this workflow in order. The content search depends on URLs returned by the metadata filter, so it cannot run in parallel with metadata discovery.

1. Discover the Country metadata

Start with a broad metadata call:

sharepoint_metadata_filter(includeColumns: ["*"])

Read availableColumns as the authoritative list of library metadata.

  • If Country exists, use that exact column name and its recorded values.
  • If Country is absent, state that the library does not track Country and stop.
  • If the request does not identify a specific country, inspect the available Country values before asking the user to choose one.

Do not infer a file's country from its title, folder, contents, or general knowledge.

2. Establish the complete country set

First inspect the whole library:

sharepoint_metadata_filter(groupByColumn: "Country")

Use the returned groups, totalMatched, and blankCount directly. The expected relationship is:

sum(groups) + blankCount == totalMatched

Do not pre-filter this call with keyword. A keyword would reveal only files about that term, not every file assigned to the country.

Then enumerate all files for the requested country:

sharepoint_metadata_filter(
  columnFilter: { column: "Country", operator: "eq", value: "<recorded value>" },
  includeColumns: ["*"]
)

For a comparison, retrieve the countries together:

sharepoint_metadata_filter(
  columnFilter: {
    column: "Country",
    operator: "in",
    values: ["<recorded value 1>", "<recorded value 2>"]
  },
  includeColumns: ["*"]
)

Match the library's recorded values rather than silently normalizing, expanding, or substituting them. Include every returned file, including underscore-prefixed files and index files.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

knowledge-source-router is a skill published in the GitHub repository microsoft/cat-agent-skills (63 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 79 tokens to every session and 1,206 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
