Flint is a visualization language that turns compact, human-editable chart descriptions into charts without requiring an agent to specify every layout detail. Its library produces output for formats including Vega-Lite, ECharts, Chart.js, Plotly, and editable Excel charts, while its MCP server lets agents create, validate, and render visualizations. The catalogue skills, agent, and MCP integration help coding agents use Flint.
Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Grade A, and why
flint-board-author scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 17d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 257 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
flint-board: several charts, one view
A board holds several Flint charts under one headline. The agent writes it as
one board spec, checks it with validate_board, which draws nothing, and puts
it on screen with show({ "board": … }), which opens a new card below the
conversation's latest message. The server keeps nothing between calls: the spec
in the conversation is the board. So call show once a turn, after the board
is right; to change it later, change the spec and call show again.
Each chart on a board is a full chart spec (flint-chart-author), plus an
id and a layout. This skill covers what a board adds: the headline, which
charts, where they sit, how they connect, and how they look as one piece.
Work through the steps in order. A board is ready to show when its latest
report shows no ✗ and its Review: section is empty or says only that a
colour field is shared.
Step 1 — write the headline
The board's title is what the reader takes away, or what the board is for,
in one line. Its subtitle is the deck: the data, its scope, period and
units. source is the footer: where the data comes from and when.
title: "Europe carried the third-quarter recovery"
subtitle: "Monthly revenue by region and product line, Jan–Sep 2025, $m"
source: "Source: finance ledger, closed books to 30 Sep 2025"
A monitoring board with no single finding names its purpose instead:
"Operations at a glance". The card draws the title largest, so it is the
first thing read; every board gets one.
Step 2 — choose the charts
Start from the questions the reader brings, one chart per question, and keep the board to the charts that answer them: three to five KPI tiles and up to six charts. More than that is two boards.
| The reader asks | Chart |
|---|---|
| How are we doing on the numbers we steer by? | KPI Card per number, with goal when there is a target |
| How did it move over time? | Line Chart (few series), Area Chart (parts of a total) |
| Which is largest, how do they rank? | Bar Chart sorted by value, Bar Table for many rows with labels |
| Which records are behind it? | Table: the rows as given, one column per field, encodings: {} |
| What is it made of? | Stacked Bar Chart, or Pie Chart with innerRadius for up to five parts |
| How do two measures relate? | Scatter Plot |
| Where? | Choropleth, Map |
| How is it spread? | Histogram, Boxplot |
| Each series' trend at a glance | Sparkline |
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

flint-board-author is a skill published in the GitHub repository microsoft/flint-chart (4,554 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 93 tokens to every session and 3,596 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-22.
