add-geolocation

add-geolocation is a skill for Claude Code from microsoft/power-platform-skills. It costs 37 tokens per session (1,856 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An internal helper for continuous background GPS tracking in a Power Apps mobile app. It stores location data durably and uploads it to a verified Dataverse table, Microsoft's cloud data service.

In plain words
What is it for?
It verifies the app, package, Dataverse destination table, and mapped columns, then uses the background-location client and service for tracking and upload. It is not intended for taking one foreground location reading.
Why use it?
It handles location tracking that must continue beyond a single screen or foreground reading. It also enforces the required authentication and native tracking path.

About the project

microsoft/power-platform-skills is a plugin marketplace containing reusable skills, agents, and commands for developing with Microsoft Power Platform. Developers use it to build and deploy Power Pages sites, model-driven Power Apps, and related solutions through Claude Code or GitHub Copilot. The catalogue entries are the marketplace's included skills, agents, plugins, and other agent components.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00037 $0.01856
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00928
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00371
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00186

Security

Grade A, and why

add-geolocation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Add Geolocation

Internal helper for /add-native geolocation, /add-native location-tracking, /add-native background-location, /add-native gps-tracking, and /add-native @microsoft/power-apps-native-bglocation.

Use this only for continuous/background GPS tracking with native durable storage and inline Dataverse upload. For a single foreground coordinate read, use /add-native location (expo-location) instead.

Hard rules:

  • Auth is MSAL-only. Do not expose OneAuth or an auth selector.
  • Use geoService(dataSource, app_id) and BgLocationClient.
  • Do not use GeolocationExtension, HostingSDK, PCF, Launch URI, or CordovaV2 bridge paths.
  • Do not install packages or edit native config.
  • The control is not usable until its Dataverse target table and mapped columns are verified.

1. Verify app and package

test -f app.config.js && test -f power.config.json && test -f package.json && test -d src
node -e "const p=require('./package.json'); const m='@microsoft/power-apps-native-bglocation'; if (!p.dependencies?.[m]) { console.error('MISSING: ' + m); process.exit(1); } console.log('OK: geolocation package present');"

If either check fails, stop. The template/app must already ship the native package.

2. Verify the Dataverse target table first

This control uses the package default Dataverse entity set:

msdyn_locationrecords

Do not ask the user for a table name and do not invent a custom table. msdyn_locationrecords must already exist before the control can be used.

ENV_JSON=$(node "${PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/resolve-environment.js" "$(node -e "console.log(require('./power.config.json').environmentId)")")
ENV_URL=$(node -e "const j=JSON.parse(process.argv[1]); process.stdout.write(j.environmentUrl || '')" "$ENV_JSON")

TABLE="msdyn_locationrecords"
node "${PLUGIN_ROOT}/scripts/dataverse-request.js" "$ENV_URL" GET \
  "EntityDefinitions?\$filter=EntitySetName eq '$TABLE'&\$select=LogicalName,EntitySetName"

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
