Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00111 $0.07618
Opus 5 $0.00056 $0.03809
Sonnet 5 $0.00022 $0.01524
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00762

Security

Grade A, and why

zotero-operations scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Pre-flight (ALWAYS run first)

Before any step below, verify the plugin has been configured:

python3 "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT:-.}/scripts/setup/check_configured.py"

If the result is NOT CONFIGURED, stop immediately and tell the user:

The academic-research project has not been set up on this machine yet. Run the setup skill or setup wizard first to configure API keys, MCP servers, and permission rules. Do not attempt Zotero operations before that.

Do not call MCP tools, run scripts, or proceed with the procedure. Running the setup skill/wizard is the required first step.

If the result is configured, proceed.

Also check the installed zotero-mcp-server version — a stale pre-0.9 install silently loses the tool names this skill documents:

python3 "${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT:-.}/scripts/setup/check_zotero_mcp_version.py"

A WARNING line means the user should upgrade before relying on mcp__zotero__* tools; it is informational, not a hard gate — proceed if zotero-cli and zotero_io.py still cover what you need.

Relationship to systematic-review — who owns enrichment?

Both this skill and systematic-review list the enrichment scripts (enrich_abstracts.py, enrich_pdfs.py, enrich_dois.py, audit_zotero_library.py). The scripts are the same; the operational context differs. The decision is simple:

  • Use systematic-review when enrichment is part of a PRISMA-style pipeline that will flow into abstract screening and full-text coding. Stage tags (abstract:*, fulltext:*), the screening-config round-trip, QA evaluator agents, and export to coded_papers.csv are all in scope. The audit report drives which items need enrichment before screening can start.
  • Use this skill when the work is standalone library housekeeping — the user has a Zotero collection (SLR or not) and wants missing abstracts filled, missing PDFs attached, BBT keys fixed, duplicates found, or a one-off Zotero query answered. No downstream screening / coding step is planned.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

zotero-operations is a skill published in the GitHub repository mronkko/claude-academic-research (23 stars, last pushed 7d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 111 tokens to every session and 7,618 once invoked, about $0.0006 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
