monthly-review

monthly-review is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from msolecki/founder-os. It costs 25 tokens per session (1,603 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A monthly business retrospective that compares what happened with the company's charter, meaning its intended purpose and direction. It interprets the financial figures after the books are closed rather than producing those figures.

In plain words
What is it for?
Reviewing the closed month's revenue and other figures, identifying drift from the charter, and recording what the results mean for the next period.
Why use it?
It catches gradual changes in the business that are easy to miss from month to month. This helps reveal when urgent work has pulled the company away from its stated direction.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00025 $0.01603
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00801
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00321
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00160

Security

Grade A, and why

monthly-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Monthly Review

A month is the shortest period in which a company of one can quietly become a different company. Nobody announces it. The founder takes one urgent project, then another like it, and four months later the charter describes a business that no longer exists. This is the retrospective that catches that.

This is not the close. The CFO produces the numbers in metrics.md; you read them and say what they mean. Never restate a number you did not read from metrics.md this session.

When to use

First working day after the CFO's close — revenue-review — lands in metrics.md.

This skill has no scheduled task, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. revenue-review already fires on the 1st and writes the numbers; scheduling a second monthly ritual against the same month would give the founder two competing retrospectives and they would read neither. The close is the trigger. When metrics.md shows this month's close, run this — the founder invokes it, or the Chief of Staff does on the back of the close landing.

Mechanically: the close leaves Proposed: write the monthly review for <YYYY-MM> in metrics.md ## Close, and the next daily-brief drains it into the queue. That line is this skill's alarm clock; if it was refused, the refusal is in that morning's brief with a reason, which is more than a silent never-ran leaves behind.

Inputs

Read first, in order — house rule 1:

  • charter.md — what this business claims to be
  • metrics.md — the close, and its date
  • goals.md — the quarter's bets, at month two of three
  • reviews/weekly/ — the four weeks: where the hours actually went
  • queue.md ## Done — the month's closed work, with what each item emitted. A monthly retrospective that cannot see what was finished is reviewing the plan rather than the month. ## Done is deleted at 30 days on the grounds that this review and weekly-review have both read it by then — so read it, or that deletion is resting on a contract nobody made.
  • decisions/ — everything logged this month
  • reviews/monthly/ — last month's correction: did it hold?

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
