appsec-advisory

appsec-advisory is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from navikt/copilot. It costs 79 tokens per session (2,294 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A read-only application-security review of a repository or pull request. It examines how data moves through the code, where trust boundaries and access controls are, and whether findings can be safely verified; it is not a penetration test or certification.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review committed and uncommitted changes, trace authentication and data flows, inspect dependencies and effective policies, record read-only checks, and suggest safe ways to verify findings.
Why use it?
It turns possible security weaknesses into evidence-based, prioritized findings without changing the code or bypassing access restrictions. It also distinguishes verified behavior from assumptions about dependencies or deployment settings.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00079 $0.02294
Opus 5.5 $0.00032 $0.00918
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00016 $0.00459
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00229

Security

Grade B, and why

appsec-advisory scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Harvests environment variablesmediumData exfiltration

Enumerating or grepping the environment for keys collects credentials unrelated to what the mod says it does.

3. Run useful read-only checks and record commands, results and scope. Treat existing alerts (Dependabot, code scanning, secret scanning) as leads, not findings; record tool, ruleset, revision, scanned paths and exclusio

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 119 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

AppSec advisory

Use this skill for a scoped security review of a repo or PR, with prioritized findings and safe verification advice. It is a read-only source review, not a penetration test or certification. Use $security-review for pre-commit scans, $security-owasp for vulnerability patterns, and $threat-model or @security-champion-agent for architecture and trust boundaries.

Scope and evidence

  1. Identify repo, revision, scope and exclusions; read repo instructions and resolve the diff base. For worktree reviews include committed, staged, unstaged and untracked changes, reading untracked files directly. Never work around denied access.
  2. Map relevant entry points, data flows, assets and trust boundaries. Trace candidates through callers, auth, ownership, dependencies and deployment controls. Check defaults and effective policies, not only individual fragments, including config edge cases such as blank, relative or symlinked paths and optional values set to empty strings. Treat log statements as sinks: follow credentials, tokens, authorization codes and request bodies that carry them into logs at every level, including DEBUG. Verify third-party behavior against the versioned dependency or mark it unverified.
  3. Run useful read-only checks and record commands, results and scope. Treat existing alerts (Dependabot, code scanning, secret scanning) as leads, not findings; record tool, ruleset, revision, scanned paths and exclusions before validating each claim. Existing GitHub alerts read through gh api are cheap evidence. Do not install tools, start services, contact targets, read credentials, dump secrets or run active probes. Do not create files, even in the session workspace, unless requested. Record tools needing writes or unavailable tools as unperformed, not clean scans.
  4. Try to disprove each candidate: attacker control, reachability, upstream auth, deny policies, compensating controls and plausible impact. Check benign paths. Drop unsupported claims; state unresolved ones as questions with a way to settle them.
  5. For a PR, report only issues the change introduces or makes reachable; list existing issues separately as context. Check git history for reverted or previously fixed code, and treat changed security code without tests as higher risk.
  6. Prioritize by plausible impact and exposure, not scanner labels. Separate observed code defect, conditional risk and verified exploit: source review cannot establish the last. Rate code evidence and deployment exposure separately; do not infer reachability from an egress-only policy or a single config fragment.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

appsec-advisory is a skill published in the GitHub repository navikt/copilot (55 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 79 tokens to every session and 2,294 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (harvests environment variables). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-14.
