agentic-threat-hunting-framework: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/gates/SKILL.md

gates is a skill for Claude Code from Nebulock-Inc/agentic-threat-hunting-framework. It costs 36 tokens per session (11,700 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A validator for security findings produced by a hunt. A hunt is an investigation that searches for suspicious behaviour; this method checks whether its findings are suitable for production detections, advisories, or a recurring playbook.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after a security hunt to assess proposed rules, extract detection candidates from observations, or record why a result should not become a detection.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish useful, deployable detection rules from observations that still need work or should remain advice. It also handles hunts that find no confirmed attacks or only configuration risks.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.11700
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.04680
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.02340
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.01170

Security

Grade A, and why

gates scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 24d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

GATES Hunt Detection Validator

Apply GATES (Generalizable, Additive, Tunable, Exposure-tested, Sustainable) method to hunt KEEP phase outputs.

When to Use

  • After completing any hunt (with or without explicit detection logic)
  • To identify which hunt findings would make good detections
  • To validate detection quality meets operational thresholds
  • To determine if hunt should produce detections vs. advisories vs. recurring playbook

Usage

/gates --hunt H-XXXX

Hunt Output Types & GATES Applicability

GATES adapts to different hunt outcomes:

Hunt Type Output GATES Action Example
Behavioral detection hunt Explicit detection rules proposed Score those rules H-0903 (ClickFix), H-0904 (MEGAsync)
Exploration hunt Queries + observations, no rules Extract detection candidates from patterns H-0902 (Zeek inspection)
Negative hunt 0 TPs, behavioral pattern tested Evaluate for proactive deployment or HOLD H-0901 (browser extension installer)
Risk assessment hunt Configuration findings, no behaviors Document as non-GATES (advisory output) H-0907 (Camera infrastructure)
Multi-step investigation Requires analyst correlation Classify as RECURRING_HUNT playbook Asset correlation hunts
Baseline/inventory hunt Environmental understanding Document as knowledge capture (no detection) Asset inventory, normal behavior mapping

Key insight: Not every hunt produces detections. GATES identifies which hunts should → detections vs. advisories vs. playbooks.

Framework Reference

GATES 5+5: 5 BASE (assert from hunt) + 5 ADVANCED (demonstrate operationally)

The acronym expands differently per tier, on purpose. Each letter names a concern; each tier asks a different question about it, so A and S take a different word in ADVANCED than in BASE. The table below is the canonical naming — no other expansion of GATES is current. In particular "Accuracy", "Telemetry" and "Executability" are not GATES gates; if you see them, they're stale.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

gates is a skill published in the GitHub repository Nebulock-Inc/agentic-threat-hunting-framework (402 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 36 tokens to every session and 11,700 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-28.
