surface_elevation

surface_elevation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from nezolder/civil3d-mcp-roslyn. It costs 16 tokens per session (302 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Civil 3D helper that reads the elevation of a named ground surface at a given X,Y location. Civil 3D is Autodesk software for designing roads and other civil infrastructure.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to query terrain height at survey points, road-design locations, or other coordinates in a Civil 3D drawing.
Why use it?
It avoids manually inspecting a surface to find the height at a coordinate. It also reports when the surface or point cannot be used.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Good fit Use it to query terrain height at survey points, road-design locations, or other coordinates in a Civil 3D drawing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00016 $0.00302
Opus 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00121
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00003 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

surface_elevation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 28d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Code Template

// Find the surface by name
Autodesk.Civil.DatabaseServices.Surface targetSurface = null;
foreach (ObjectId id in CivilDoc.GetSurfaceIds())
{
    var s = Transaction.GetObject(id, OpenMode.ForRead) as Autodesk.Civil.DatabaseServices.Surface;
    if (s != null && s.Name.Equals("SURFACE_NAME", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase))
    {
        targetSurface = s;
        break;
    }
}

if (targetSurface == null)
    return new { error = "Surface not found" };

double x = 1000.0;  // Replace with actual X
double y = 2000.0;  // Replace with actual Y
double elevation = targetSurface.FindElevationAtXY(x, y);

return new {
    surfaceName = targetSurface.Name,
    x, y, elevation
};

Usage Notes

  • Throws exception if the point is outside the surface boundary
  • Coordinates must be in the drawing's coordinate system
  • Works with both TIN and Grid surfaces
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

surface_elevation is a skill published in the GitHub repository nezolder/civil3d-mcp-roslyn (3 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 16 tokens to every session and 302 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
