watchdogs

watchdogs is a skill for Claude Code from nikolamin/claude-coordinator-kit. It costs 51 tokens per session (1,507 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A coordination rule for keeping track of active agents and arranging a later wake-up if work appears to stop.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps monitor in-flight agent work, record its state, and recover stalled sessions.
Why use it?
It prevents a coordinator from waiting forever when a notification is missed or a batch ends silently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00051 $0.01507
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00603
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00301
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00151

Security

Grade A, and why

watchdogs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 28d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Watchdogs and recovery

Every wakeup runs the required coordinator cycle to actually ask pending questions and fill free lanes. Reading or reporting a sweep alone is not an adequate wakeup result. Recheck immediately after each completion; do not wait for a timer.

Use the available harness's completion events plus an authorized fallback wake-up for in-flight work (typically 20–30 minutes). Record its actual id and scope in the canonical state. A missing scheduler is a disclosed limitation, never a reason to claim a wake-up is armed. Do not create duplicate monitors or revive a schedule the founder disabled.

Sweep the recorded queue

On wake/resume, run the bundled coord.py --root WORKSPACE sweep alongside the normal state read. It reports releases/user blockers without a linked question, an idle question slot with queued work, outdated questions, and quiet in-progress/verifying tasks. It never sends, changes status, dispatches or cancels. Use --available-slots N only after a fresh native fleet/capacity check; its dispatch candidates still require scoped authorization and lane/resource checks. check_capacity requires that live check, prepare_task requires intake, and review_dispatch_scope requires checking a hold against the named task rather than freezing unaffected work. Finish the cycle with --check-idle; exit 2 means outstanding action/blocker accounting, not permission to go silently idle. Unknown capacity is not zero agents, and missing recent DB notes is not proof an agent died. queue_conflict and clear_closed_queue expose stale ordering; correct canonical records after checking their intent. Conflicting positions withhold those tasks from dispatch candidates until reconciled; unrelated eligible work can proceed. review_lane flags running work without a lane or active lanes whose task is missing/closed. Inspect native ownership and remaining processes before repairing records; do not launch a replacement or release a checkout merely to make the sweep green.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
