Gym: Skill for Codex

.agents/skills/add-model-eval-config/SKILL.md

add-model-eval-config is a skill for Codex from NVIDIA-NeMo/Gym. It costs 188 tokens per session (6,491 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A configuration workflow for adding a machine-learning model to NeMo Gym evaluations, including its vLLM serving process and the settings Gym uses to call it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure model paths, parallelism, context and sequence limits, tool and reasoning parsers, chat templates, generation settings, and the policy service.
Why use it?
It gathers model-specific details first and connects the deployed model with the correct client settings, reducing configuration errors during evaluation runs.

Skill for Codex

Written for Codex: agents/openai.yaml present. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents).

This is NVIDIA-NeMo/Gym's own configuration. It tells Codex how to work on Gym itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything Gym configures →

About the project

NVIDIA-NeMo/Gym is a library and infrastructure for evaluating and improving models and agents inside environments, where each environment defines tasks, agent interaction, verification, and execution state. It is for teams running reproducible evaluations or training at scale across settings such as code execution, tool calling, and sandboxes, and the catalogue entries provide skills and instructions for working with it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00188 $0.06491
Opus 5.5 $0.00075 $0.02596
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00038 $0.01298
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00649

Security

Grade A, and why

add-model-eval-config scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Add a Model Config to Gym

The Gym pages are the reference; when they and this skill disagree, the pages win: Configuration (the services and driver fields), Multi-node vLLM and vLLM model server (the vllm_model fields, chat_template_kwargs, extra_body).

A model in a Gym evaluation has two parts:

  • The deployment: a vllm service in the submit config, started with vllm serve, and named as the policy with driver.policy_model.
  • The client: the model-type config Gym talks to it with (driver.policy_model_type, the --model-type of gym eval run). openai_model is the default; vllm_model adds reasoning extraction, chat_template_kwargs, extra_body and token information.

1. Read the model card first

Collect before writing anything: the context length, the recommended sampling settings, whether the model reasons (and which vLLM reasoning parser its family uses), its tool-call format (and the vLLM tool-call parser), whether its chat template has a reasoning switch and what it is called, and whether its repository ships a generation_config.json.

Without a model card, read the checkpoint itself: chat_template.jinja (or chat_template in tokenizer_config.json) for the reasoning switch and the tool-call format, generation_config.json for sampling, and config.json or tokenizer_config.json for the context length. The parser names come from the serving image: vllm serve --help=all lists the choices of --tool-call-parser and --reasoning-parser. Pick the tool-call parser whose format the template emits, and say in your notes which parser you chose and why.

If the benchmarks use tools, also check that the served template renders them. It needs a tools branch (grep -c tools chat_template.jinja is above 0) that renders the request's tools, the assistant's tool calls and the tool results. A template without one drops the tools without any error: the model answers in free text, the agent sees no tool call, and every rollout ends in a format error and scores 0.0.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
