nw-domain-driven-design

nw-domain-driven-design is a skill for Claude Code from nWave-ai/nWave. It costs 33 tokens per session (2,218 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A software-design approach for modeling complex business rules and separating different parts of a business domain. Domain-Driven Design, or DDD, uses concepts such as bounded contexts and aggregates to define clear boundaries and responsibilities.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps identify business boundaries, map relationships between them, design aggregates, and decide whether DDD is appropriate.
Why use it?
It helps when business terms and rules are complicated, changing, or misunderstood between teams, while avoiding unnecessary modeling for simple data-entry systems.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00033 $0.02218
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00887
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00444
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00222

Security

Grade A, and why

nw-domain-driven-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Domain-Driven Design

When to Apply DDD

DDD addresses domain complexity (business rules, language, boundaries), not technical complexity (scaling, performance). Apply selectively.

Domain Type (Cynefin) DDD Investment Approach
Clear/Simple None -- use CRUD Standard patterns, no modeling overhead
Complicated Tactical only Expert analysis, pragmatic patterns suffice
Complex Full strategic + tactical Iterative modeling, bounded contexts, continuous refinement
Chaotic Stabilize first Emergency patches, then apply DDD incrementally

Signs You Need DDD

  • Domain experts and developers frequently misunderstand each other
  • Business rules are complex, interconnected, frequently changing
  • Multiple teams work on the same codebase with conflicting models
  • System has grown into a "big ball of mud"
  • Business logic scattered across services, controllers, database procedures

Signs DDD Is Overkill

  • Simple CRUD without complex business rules
  • Technical complexity outweighs domain complexity
  • Small team, small codebase, single bounded context
  • For simple microservices, anemic domain model is acceptable (not an anti-pattern)

Strategic DDD

Subdomain Classification

Criterion Core Supporting Generic
Competitive advantage Yes No No
Unique to organization Yes Partially No
Build or buy Build Build (simplified) Buy/integrate
DDD investment Full strategic + tactical Pragmatic tactical Minimal/none
Developer allocation Senior/best talent Mid-level Junior/integration

Bounded Contexts

A bounded context is the boundary within which a particular domain model is defined and applicable. Different from subdomains: a bounded context is a software boundary; a subdomain is a problem-space concept. They should align but are not the same.

Discovery techniques:

  • Language divergence: same term means different things to different groups -- you have crossed a boundary
  • Organizational structure: different departments often correspond to different contexts
  • Consistency requirements: where true invariants must be maintained transactionally
  • EventStorming: Big Picture workshops surface boundaries through hotspots and swimlane divergences
  • Domain Storytelling: actors, work objects, activity arrows reveal natural boundaries

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

nw-domain-driven-design is a skill published in the GitHub repository nWave-ai/nWave (620 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 33 tokens to every session and 2,218 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
