rhizome-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.github/skills/rhizome-release/SKILL.md

rhizome-release is a skill for Claude Code from Odrin/rhizome-mcp. It costs 103 tokens per session (1,288 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A release runbook for rhizome-mcp, a software project that publishes packages and extensions. It explains how to turn committed changes into a dated changelog, a GitHub release, and verified published builds.

In plain words
What is it for?
Preparing a version, reviewing commits since the previous tag, running verification suites, committing and pushing the release, publishing it on GitHub, and checking the resulting workflow.
Why use it?
It removes the need to remember the project's release order and safety checks. It helps prevent publishing from the wrong branch, skipping verification, or leaving the automated release workflow unchecked.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00103 $0.01288
Opus 5.5 $0.00041 $0.00515
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00258
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00129

Security

Grade A, and why

rhizome-release scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 80 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Rhizome release

Releases are published from main. Publishing a GitHub release creates the tag and fires .github/workflows/release.yml (release: published), which builds binaries and publishes npm, the MCP Registry, the VS Code Marketplace, and Open VSX. Do not push tags by hand and do not stamp versions in files: the workflow stamps server.json, the VS Code extension version, and (afterwards, on main) plugins/rhizome-mcp/.claude-plugin/plugin.json.

Track the release as a rhizome-mcp issue like any other work (see the rhizome-task-workflow skill): create a task titled Publish vX.Y.Z release with the distribution label, claim it with CHANGELOG.md as a reserved file resource, save a checkpoint after verification, and finish_attempt with the commit, release URL, and workflow run URL as artifacts.

1. Scope the release

git pull && git status --short --branch # must be clean and not behind
git tag --sort=-version:refname | head -3 # previous tag
git log --oneline v<prev>..HEAD # full range
git log --format='%h %s' v<prev>..HEAD | rg -v 'Update (unit|integration) coverage badge|stamp plugin manifest'

Ignore generated badge and plugin-stamp commits. Read the diffs of consequential commits (git show --no-ext-diff --unified=8 <sha>) instead of trusting subjects. Confirm the new tag and release do not exist yet:

git ls-remote --exit-code origin refs/tags/vX.Y.Z # must fail
gh release view vX.Y.Z --repo Odrin/rhizome-mcp # must fail

Pick the version: breaking contract change = major, new capability = minor, fixes/internal only = patch.

2. Write the CHANGELOG entry

Insert ## [X.Y.Z] - YYYY-MM-DD (today) directly above the previous release in CHANGELOG.md. Follow Keep a Changelog sections in this order: Added, Changed, Fixed, Removed, Internal; omit empty ones.

  • One bullet per behavior, not per commit: - **Bold summary** — what changed, who is affected, observable effect and error codes. Group related commits (e.g. several perf(...) commits become one bullet).
  • Describe shipped behavior verified in the diff, not commit-message intent. Name tools, commands, flags, and error codes in backticks.
  • Release-pipeline, CI, test-only, and coverage changes go under Internal.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
